You can't ask for more than that Gesendet von meinem VOG-L29 mit Tapatalk That's kind of my point, there's elite defenders then just like there is now only then there appeared to be more due to the systems, just like today wingers look better due to being able to play close to goal compared to back then and alas produce better numbers. Any defender who can stand out in this era playing for teams that play high split defenders football deserve all the praise they get, VVD's peak may have been a bit later/shorter (depending on whether you think his current form is just a rut or him bottoming out) but for 18 months he was almost flawless. I saw a lot of people saying Liverpool were very poor defensively against Leeds and Chelsea will have a field day against them next week. But they don't see that it is the high pressing tactics of Bielsa that did all that. Just the way Bayern in the Champions League made defences look amateur, it's the same high pressing tactics of Leeds. Leeds with that style can beat any top team in the league easily. I hope Lampard can implement that style of play, just like he tried to do at the beginning of last season before abandoning it later. All 3 of their new signings look like they've been there for years already. Hopefully our new boys slot straight in and look comfortable like this.
