Chelsea Football Club say they are saddened by the death of football fan, Tabitha Nyambura Njenga, in Kenya on Tuesday night.

The English Premier League champions’ Communications and Public Affairs office said in a statement to the Daily Nation that everyone at London-based club was saddened to hear of Tabitha’s passing, and offered their condolences to her family and friends.

“We hope the strength of their shared memories of her will help them through this most difficult time”, a Chelsea spokesman said on Wednesday night.

Chelsea Football Club is registered in England and Wales with a registered office at Stamford Bridge, Fulham Road, in the United Kingdom.

Her step father, Samwel Ndungu, thanked the Chelsea FC for their condolences passed through the Sports Desk of the Daily Nation and confirmed the deceased was a stauch supporter of Chelsea.

He spoke from the Nairobi City Mortuary Thursday where he had gone to attend Nyambura’s postmortem.

Seemed depressed

The 21-year-old Nyambura collapsed and died on Tuesday night in Kiserian after the team she was supporting, Chelsea FC, lost 2-1 to Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League at Old Trafford in Manchester.

As the match progressed, Tabitha seemed depressed and when the final whistle was blown, she went quiet then took three deep and long breaths before she lay still.

She was rushed a nearby Hospital but the doctor pronounced her dead. Her mother, Grace Njeri, said she was fine and had not complained of anything. But just before the match, she had expressed fear that Manchester United might defeat Chelsea.

“She loved football since she was a young girl and her team was Chelsea,” said the mother with tears in her eyes.

Nyambura attended primary school in Kiserian and later proceeded to Massi Girls High School where she sat for her Form Four exams in 2008.

She later joined the Nairobi Aviation College where she studied a diploma in cabin crew management.

The tall, slim and brown, Nyambura had hoped to be a member of the cabin crew in one of the leading airlines in the country.

She finished her studies last month and was awaiting her graduation ceremony in December.

wtf? :(

R.I.P

Its really sad, 2 years ago, a gooner commited suicide in Nairobi Kenya by hanging himself, just after Arsenal crashed out of the Champions league in the hands of manchester United.

Funny how those Red Devils kill other teams' fans.

I know...weren't there violent clashes between united and chelsea supporters somewhere in Africa after the CL final? Few people got killed. This is madness ... football isn't worth something to die over.

Madmax, I didnt know that. All I know is a war that started between 2 close friends. one was a gooner and the other was a Chelsea fan. One of them was stabbed. Luckily, he did not die. it was last season when Chelsea beat Arsenal. In Kenya, English football is off limits. They die to see their teams win. and they commit suicide if their teams loose.
