I definitely see Lampard playing a more "utility" role in these last few seasons he'll have with us. I'd love it if he's the player pushing through players like Josh McEachran could get himself into the team, like Desailly did all those years back with John Terry when he was establighing himself as a Chelsea regular.

Yeah fully agree. Just depends on how the coaching team are directing him, in terms of development. I also don't think he's being made into a Pirlo, I just think he's playing there because he's less likely to get injured there and he's supported by Terry right behind him, Lampard straight a head an Essien to make sure nobody f*cks with Josh!

Don't be daft, Lampard in the holding role would be an unmitigated disaster. Scholes can play the holding role because his passing allows him to. Lampard is a box to box midfielder and nothing more.
