Andrey Arshavin could be on his way to Chelsea in the summer, as Arsenal close in on deals for young stars Eden Hazard and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Russian midfielder has endured a dip in form in recent months, amid speculation he is unhappy at The Emirates.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has publicly backed Arshavin but, according to the News of the World, plans to offload him at the end of the season.

Chelsea are said to be monitoring the situation and ready to make a bid for the 29-year-old as soon as they receive an indication Arsenal are prepared to sell.

Arshavin's departure is unlikely to leave the Gunners short of creativity, as Wenger is apparently confident of bringing in two exciting young talents.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Arsenal have beaten off competition from Liverpool and Manchester City to land Southampton midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain.

They will pay an initial fee of £7 million for the 17-year-old, but the deal could eventually be worth £10 million.

Wenger is also upbeat about his chances of landing Lille's Belgium international Hazard, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

No fee has been agreed for the 20-year-old attacking midfielder yet, but he is keen to join Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

I was shocked when I saw this. But I have to say, it's not a bad option, and would probably be cheaper if we can't tempt Sanchez.

The only problem.... Arshavin is on bad form at the moment.

I wouldn't mind the Russian Meerkat coming to Chelsea :D

He's a good playmaker and he can play on both wings too. The only problem is he's 29, but if he recaptures that form it could benefit us. I doubt Arsenal will let him go cheaply though and so we have the classic problem of paying too much for a player coming to the end stages of his career.

That would be typical lol. There were some serious rumours about him moving to Chelsea during and after EURO 2008. And maybe we will sign him in summer 2011. Great player though, no doubt.

The thing is though, we got the best out of Ballack and Carvalho when they were at their peak before we sold them on. You can obviously see how bad of a season we've had so far without those players. Right now, I think we need players like him bombing down the wing and providing for the strikers.

But Arshavin turns 30 in May, so it is a worrying buy.

NO NO NO NO NO!! I really do admire Arshavin, but that doesnt mean he should be at Chelsea. Go buy Sanchez, Hazard, or fork out the money for Neymar before even considering Arshavin!!

Sneaky russians!

He would be really good cover,he can play in almost every midfield position, and on the wings.I rated him really high before he joined Arsenal and in a good part with them.

The low points are that he is already 29 and he is Gooner

Yeah I get that. But remember, Ballack was a free transfer really and Carvalho was bought at his peak, straight from Porto with Mourinho so he knew exactly how to use him. With Arshavin he'll come into a new team with a new manager with a hefty price tag too. Arsenal paid something like £20million, I'm sure they'll ask for a similar figure, so I don't see it happening to be honest.

Now that's a kind of signing i'd love to see. Top, top player and although not having the greatest season, he really can turn it on. Great option. Will we sign him? Probably not. This is Talk Chelsea's transfer talk section.

He is just not consistent enough.

He is the type of player that will produce 1 sensatinal performance (IE Russia V Holland, 4 goals at Anfield, Villa park this season) then follow it up with about 12 average games.

On top form there aint too many better at what he does but how often is he on top form?

He's a good player, but with almost 30 years and bad form I wouldn't like him here. Arsenal wouldn't sell him cheap and I rather that we play alot of money for a younger player who can play with us some more. Players like Arshavin lose their speed and agility with their age...and if we sign him in the summer like the rumours say, he'll be 30 and will probably play on left wing, so we'll have 2 left wingers over 30 years =.=

Sanchez, Neymar, Lukaku much better options in my opinion. Young and can be sold much better.
