Muzchap 8,966
I do think a player who actually chooses to go to the French league like Falcao did lack ambition. Cavani pretty much went to PSG because it was his only option other than staying at Napoli. No one else was willing to pay his release clause. At PSG, if they don't win the Champions League, no one cares because winning the French League is so meaningless these days. With the absolutely staggering amount of money their squad costs it makes their domestic league an afterthought. The standard there is low, so if they don't win the CL their season is really a failure. If a player has the option to go to Real/Barca/United/Chelsea ect and chooses to go to the 5th best league in Europe, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.Paris is (hate saying this) a pretty cool place... So I don't blame him and he was left in an awkward position as his employers wanted the money!!!So good luck to him - we didn't meet the clause, PSG did - end of story
BleedsBlue 1,549
Now I know how the other club fans used to feel when we paid high transfer fees.Anyways as for Cavani,I wish him well and hope he continues his good form. He's a really good football player and doesn't deserve harsh words about this move.Bonne Chance Edision. You also have to appreciate that he might just be leaving Napoli to go to PSG to actually build something there, which is a fresh start where all parties receive exactly what they want. This isn't just about the clause, but about the astronomical wages that go with it. The club have to stop somewhere, and maybe this is a step too far for us, and to be fair it isn't a bad thing. We all want the best players here, but I feel the club and board have made the right choice in this instance if we backed out of this. Heisenberg 1,824
Some of you lads are acting like spoilt brats. Almost as if you believe Chelsea is by right a bigger club than PSG. Chelsea were in the exact same position a decade ago. The only difference is that instead of bitter Chelsea fans whinging and whining, it was Liverpool fans or some shit.Whenever a Chelsea fan says with bitter adorn 'he is just doing it for the money' I cringe and murder a small kitten. You are doing this to the world, not me.Blah.I dont remember us fighting to avoid relegation like Paris did with the Sochaux & Troyes under Lacombe, I remember a Chelsea that won cups, supercups, and was playing the Champions League, having players like Desailly, JT, Zola & JFH ... & co.We were a good side, and with Romans money we are now a top side. Our situation with Paris is absolutley not the same, we needed the money because of our financial situation, we were not a toy of a Qatarian Emir, promoting the 2022 WC. Fernando 6,585
Can't hate on him as no one from England and Spain wanted to meet Napoli demand. But also teams like us city and Madrid have created this environment for paying big for players. So not the players fault here. Too much money put on his head from his club. Bir_CFC 3,455
Meh, you can't get everyone you want. There are a lot of players that would be great at Chelsea but we can't get them. That said, Chelsea is probably the envy of the world in that respect considering the talent we have on our books.

We where going to go bankrupt. And with out his money these fans and heck this site would not have existed. Big money put Chelsea on the world elite as it did for City, and is doing for psg. Don't deny it. The club was spending well beyond it's means and was on the verge of bankruptcy. What would have saved a club that needed to sell it's best player to afford wages? Just because the club had a few Cups under it's belt and had some great players doesn't mean that it was invulnerable to the drop. Newcastle dropped, nobody thought that would happen. Monaco dropped and they had a brilliant team, even making it to the 2004 Champions League Final. Leeds them self were often around the semi-finals of the CL, they dropped. Napoli even though dominant in the 80s and 90s dropped and almost dissolved. Atletico Madrid dropped four years after they won in La Liga in 1996. A few trinkets and stars would not have saved a club hemorrhaging money.Instead of a tool to promote, Chelsea are a toy to play with. It's just lucky the little kid who owns the toy is quite fond of it. Hostedenis, Fernando, Peace. and 3 others

Fernando 6,585
PSG are spending more money because the prices have gone up nowWell when you spend big money on shit players like torres and kaka, of course someone like Falcao and cavani will command similar figures.Cause if a player of that caliber is valued at this price then why not theirs? They can argue that the suarez, cavani and Falcao of this world have a similar value to that of this players that was sold so and so. And every couple of years prices continue to creep up. Bosnian Blue 2,471
Well we can now rule out Chris Cohen as a reliable source. Cavani - very good player, not worth the money. But I don't realize why they went for him with Zlatan doing some incredible things already. Hes off now probably. ulsterchelsea, Christo191 and iceboy

I had no clue who the hell they where more then a decade ago, as I will assume like the majority here. Big money came and transform this club, just like it did with City and PSG.
