Chelsea In Talks to Sign £17.5m Subotić

German newspaper Bild are reporting that Chelsea are in talks to bring Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotić to Stamford Bridge in a €21 Million deal.

Carlo Ancelotti's men are currently going through a significant dip in form that is threatening to undermine their whole season, which has now prompted the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to finally dip in to his deep pockets once again.

Subotić currently plays for German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund who appear ready to sell the 22 year old now that Chelsea are prepared to meet their asking price.

Neven Subotić is considered one of the best up and coming centre backs in Europe and Chelsea are not the only ones chasing the Serbian international and his form this season has helped take Borussia Dortmund well clear at the top of the Bundesliga and as such his side will be reticent to sell the 22 year old.

Carlo Ancelotti is looking to beef up his defensive options as well as trying to reverse the ageing nature of his Stamford Bridge squad and a move for the man dubbed the 'Next Nemanja Vidic" would helpfully help resolve both issues.

Chelsea are of course in the middle of a horrible series of results and will hope to bring Subotic in this month to help push them back into the title chase race.

Borussia Dortmund have told Chelsea and other clubs to forget about bidding for Nevan Subotic.

"We will not sell any player this winter, full stop," Watzke told Nachrichten.

"We do not even think about selling anyone during the summer. Should there be a fantastic offer dropping in for any player and given this offer would be also of significance for Borussia Dortmund, we would still remain very much unprepared to sell.

"Of course, in a given case we would consider it. Anyway, we are not allowing any young player to leave us."

Nothing will happen, if it's supposed to, until the summer.

I live in Serbia and I saw this rumour in the newspapers. He's a great player and would be a good signing, but there's no way Dortmund is going to sell him now. Maybe in the summer.

Chelsea are claimed to have entered talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign highly-rated defender Neven Subotic, stealing a march over rivals Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bolster his defence after injuries to first-choice pair John Terry and Alex earlier this season caused problems.

And according to German daily Bild, Chelsea have launched an opening £17.5million offer for the 22-year-old Serbia international.

Subotic is one of the most coveted stars on the continent with United and Madrid both watching his progress closely in the Bundesliga where he has been hugely impressive for Dortmund this term.

After allowing Ricardo Carvalho to link up with former Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu last summer, Chelsea have been short on proven quality at the back.

Youngsters Jeffrey Bruma and Patrick van Aanholt have played a supporting role to Terry and Alex, while full-back Branislav Ivanovic has stepped in on occasion. But without the pair - or one missing - the Blues have been exposed.

Although the fee for Subotic is expensive, he would represent value for money and could emerge as a potential successor to England star Terry.

However, the Dortmund player’s representative last month insisted Subotic is not keen on a January move.
