Club Extend adidas Sponsorship Deal

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce an extension of our global partnership with adidas that will see the sports brand continue to be an official sponsor and sportswear supplier for the club over the next eight years.

The relationship was launched in 2006 when both parties created the world's largest team photo as 8,000 Chelsea fans lined up alongside the first team squad.

Chelsea and adidas have since undertaken a number of successful grassroots projects. This has included partnering with America's top youth football clubs to help develop US soccer, and the launch of 'Blue Pitches' aimed at encouraging young kids to participate in sport across London with plans to roll them out internationally after the launch of a Blue Pitch in Hong Kong last year.

Ron Gourlay, Chelsea FC's chief executive, said: 'We are delighted to extend our partnership until 2018 after a highly successful first four years. Both organisations are highly ambitious and want to continue in partnership to develop globally and for us, grow in our key market territories across Asia and North America.

'The increased value of the deal reaffirms adidas' belief in the club's growing status in world football.'

Herbert Hainer, chief executive officer of adidas AG added: 'Both adidas and Chelsea have a long and proud heritage in football and we're delighted to continue our working relationship with one of Europe's elite football clubs. We look forward to many more years of success, working closely with the club on product, marketing and grass roots initiatives in the UK and around the globe.'

The extension will include additional rights and opportunities that will ensure the two organisations will continue to mutually benefit and build on their existing success as marketing partners.

As long as they stop giving us horrific away/third shirts, good news.

Shame we don't have any figures for the new deal, but it wasn't bad to begin with.Signing it this year might actually help us achieve self sufficiency.

Our Samsung deal on the other hand sits behind both ManUtd's deal with AON and Liverpool's with Standard Chartered despite being extended only a while ago.

as for the figures guys The Guardian Claims that the deal is worth around 160m for the next 8 years & The Telegraph reports that it's over 175m, I am just confused & waiting to get a report from the club on the figures....

I don't think Chelsea would release the figures really. Perhaps when they reveal their profit/loss numbers at the end of the financial year.

I refuse to beleive that.........Real Madrid recovered the 80m for Ronaldo by his shirts sale within a year

The extended contract with Adidas is a recognition of how much of a money earner Chelsea is for Adidas. It has to be read with other studies that has Chelsea as the club with the 4th number of fans in the world. Of the 3 above Chelsea, only one (Madrid) is an Adidas club. However, earlier this year Adidas admitted that they were selling more Chelsea and Liverpool shirts than Madrid kit. Recent years have seen global recognition of Chelsea explode, as a cursory glance at what shirts are on display in any holiday resort this summer could reveal (or, for that matter, what knock-offs are available). We can assume that the tie-up between Chelsea and Adidas has been very beneficial for Adidas.

These deals dont count at the end of the financial year only the people coming to the games and the buying and selling of players shirt deals and merchandise are not included . thats why the mancs have become the first English club to crash through the £100 million profit barrier – despite posting an £83.6m loss.
