Luke 60
Not sure how there wasnt another minute added on considering the Newcastle sub and injury during injury time and the pitch invasion. All the same, in one way that was tremendous. Attitude is so important in football, for another team being 3-1 playing with 10 men for the last 30 minutes in a meaningless competition would have given the players the perfect excuse to not put in any effort, that was one of the bravest performances I can remember. Didnt let our heads drop, playing a man down, 3-1 down but rallied back.Obviously there was negatives, for the first 3 goals you cxould easily single out one player who made an individual mistake that cost us the goal, the fourth was just bad set piece defending in general. Yuzi Zhirkov made absolutely no impact whatsoever but most of all that performance from Paulo Ferreira was one of the worst I've ever seen from a player in a Chelsea jersey in recent memory, off the top of my head the only one that comes close to rivalling it was Daniel Sturridge's tonight also. they both had absolute shockers, I dont think any team (let alone one with 10 men) could have won with them on their side tonight. The other 2 huge negatives are the injuries to Benayoun and Kalou. The huge positive to take away from this though is Josh McEachran, despite being only on the pitch for about 30 minutes, he was our best player. I've always wondered how would we find somebody who could possibly fill Lampard's boots, well it looks like we have a winner, against an experienced, combative Newcastle midfield he was stunning, that is how you make an impact.Other positives include Nic Anelka showing once again that the days of him being "Le Sulk" are long gone(unless your Raymond Domenech) an inspiring performance that others followed. Ramires again notches up a very good performance, he will have a huge part to play in Chelsea's pursuit of domestic and European success. Van Aanholt, despite making the mistake for the first goal, was excellent, scoring one and providing a tremendous assist for another. So the quadruple dream dies tonight, however there are a lot of positives to take from that game, not least of all Josh McEachran, it would have been nice to have gone through and see the fringe players get more game time but mistakes, circumstance and poor individual performances counted against us in the end, still though we are on the right track, with a squad attitude like the one displayed tonight we can go very far indeed.EXCELLENT post my friend. Styles 9,790
Great game for the neutral. Nerve racking for the rest of us.As this was considered one for the kids I'll give my opinion on them; I thought Kakuta, Bruma and Patrick Van Anholt were very unimpressive. They are not ready to play even the Carling Cup games which is a real worry for the club considering how thin the squad is. Bruma in particular was completely out of his depth. Not suprised to see Kakuta halued off at haltime, besides the assist he was out of the game and seemed to panic at times. Josh McEachran looks the best player of the lot. He is so composed on the ball and is the most likely to break into the senior squad. The others look another year away or in Kakuta's case two years. eldo 868
I don't think that Bruma was so bad as some of you think. And as one above me said, midfield wasn't working really well from 20 to 60 mins of play.

chrismada9 1,948
I want to see McEachran wearing a lower shirt number than 46 next season!! He's a MASSIVE thing to come out of our ranks since JT! He reminded me of Scott Parker when he was with us, he has that presence in midfield that just makes things happen.... a playmaker, which is what we really need in the middle of the park!Soon as he came on, he owned the Newcastle midfield, and it was amazing to see! sarthur 2
Main disappointment was (no offense) wasting two places on the bench as a treat to a couple of youngsters who weren't going to play when the likes of Mikel, Essien or even Drogba could have sat and watched knowing they are there in an emergency, like tonight. Saving grace was Josh getting more minutes than he would have so some silver lining but now no more CC for the kids to play in and very few minutes for them for the rest of the season. Styles 9,790
he is 20 ashley cole wasnt built in a day ...cut the kid some slack ffsThat isn't very harsh criticism at all. This was a great test for the kids that are constantly talked up and they weren't very impressive. I really hope we don't suffer many injuries this year because our squad is really thin and that was proved today.
Badboy 1,526
"The others look another year away or in Kakuta's case two years." talking about rating players on 45 mins of action, kakuta is the closest out of them all to breaking through that is why he gets premiership mins. I can guarantee you if he came off the bench like josh did he would of had just as big an impact on the game. saying all that he was actually good, he was miles better than what danny was and he did not deserve to be hauled off, also he got injured !
