I think Carlo deserves all the respect in the world. After last seasons success he had enough power to have a word with the powers that be at Chelsea and ask for some big money signings, he could have put his faith in the likes of Joe Cole and Michael Ballack for another season and ask that they get their contracts renegotiated and give them the terms they wanted but Carlo has instead put his faith in the young players at Chelsea, giving the lad Sturridge a start tomorrow night and having a bench full of youngsters, Ancelotti isnt Arsene Wenger, Ancelotti is actually expected to win things this season, but at the same time he is a man determined to progress our youth and for that he deserves a lot of respect.

Not trying to start an argument here but we did try to sign a certain lad from Brazil and according to some sources Ancelotti wanted to keep both Ballack and Cole.It was more a case of our Football Board wanting to get rid of some wages and Carlo happily working with what he has available.

Good to see Sturridge starting the game, i read an interview in which sturridge was talking about how he thinks about breaking into the first team 24/7. If he maintains that attitude i'm sure soon it will all start to fall into place. Nothing would be sweeter than to see him in the england squad, and have all the maure & liverscum fans screaming his name.

i don't care whether carlo was the reason behind the depature of those players because i am very glad this happened , the club now is heading in the right direction with a full experienced very strong 1st team players , a couple of decent subs and some very promising youngsters .

although would have been more happy if carvahlo had stayed to provide more depth in our defence.

All the same, a manager of his stature and popularity could have kicked up an O Neil level tantrum, thrown him dummy out and demanded that both Cole and Ballack be resigned to contracts. Clearly he didnt feel strongly enough to demand it, sure he might have asked for it but I doubt he ever went to the extremes he could have gone to and other managers have gone to, to get what they want.

Sure he could, but I doubt he's that kind of manager.Mourinho might have revolted but Ancelotti is used to such conditions from his Milan days where he had little control over his squad(didn't know Kaka, didn't want Ronaldinho). All I'm trying to point out is that apparently he does not have the control some of us think/hope he has.

Delighted for Studge. Carlo obviously thinks very high of him, maybe it's the start of a decent run in the side for him? Love how everyone is getting a rest on a rotational basis without actually putting out a weak team. Alex and Flo against West Ham, Nico and Ash for this one. Will still be a tight game I feel, they're not gonna roll over. Champions League debut for them so they'll be absolutely buzzing and would want to do some damage to the big boys in the group. Also, it's the start of a new competition, so there'll be some nerves on our side. It's obvious we'll create chances, and if we take them, we should be home and dry quite comfortably.

P.S. Anyone has streaming links for the game? I won't be able to catch it on telly, the cable guy would be showing Madrid vs Ajax instead.

Carlo on Champions League -

“I don’t think it is becoming a mental problem for Chelsea. They came very, very close to winning it two years ago, maybe this year it will finally happen.“It would be a big step for Chelsea as a club because the Champions League is the most important club competition in the world and winning it would improve our image as a club in Europe and beyond.

“The Champions League has brought me the most satisfaction in my career, both as a coach and a player, so it has a very special importance for me. And no London team has ever won it, so with the final at Wembley maybe that can be a good motivation.

“As a club, Chelsea deserved to win the Premier League last season (where they scored 103 goals in 38 games), but to win in Europe you also have to deserve it, not because of what has happened in the past.

“I know how it feels to lose a Champions League final on penalties with Milan, but for me that was a good experience in the end. After two years, we had our revenge against Liverpool.

“If you have time to wait, the passion to wait, revenge always arrives - and I’m sure these players will have their revenge one day. I don’t know if I will be here for it, but these players will win the Champions League, I’m sure of it.

“You never know - they could win it with John Terry taking the winning penalty. That would be good.”

I like the team Carlo has put out for this game, good enough to beat what is infront of us and give game time to players who have not had much like Zhirkov, Benayoun and Sturridge. This is where our smaller squad and the management of that squad will be very important for our season, no matter what changes are made (as long as there are not wholesale changes) the team is still very strong.

The mail though surprisingly complimentary complimentary today still managed two of their prize idiotcisms( a word I have invented purely for them).

Their headline by PRAT Barlow includes "Ancelotti turns into the Tinkerman ",,,Tinkerman ??? ..Drogba suspended ,Lampard recovering from injury. Only 2 players have been rested Ashley and Kalou. Calling the Tinkerman should have referred to Fergie surely.

In a second generally sympathetic article by Martin Samuels ,the sting is in the tail ,,,where (and here I paraphrase).."he (Carlo) may realise

winning ANOTHER BORING LEAGUE TITLE may not guarantee his future employment .

WE get the Mail because my wife likes it I prefer The Times

I think your spot on there, its great that Ancelotti is rotating the squad around a bit but is still fielding a strong side unlike Man Utd last night who made 10 changes to their team, Ancelotti has got the balance absolutely right.
