Ah yes, I've read about this before. But like I said, the mechanism speaks about avoidance of people who you spend your early life with.

the fact remains it's very difficult for people who aren't part of Muslim culture to understand how the values are completely different and how for them many things that apply to occidental world don't apply to them. So they take their western studies and try to make it fit in all cultures where it mainly only applies to occidental culture in general... regardless of where that reaches. It doesn't reach some of the Muslim world, tribes in Africa, some Asian cultures. But still they label the entire humankind and put it into their so small box.

I click. I read the website title. I quit.

If anyone could go beyond that, report your findings.

I got to a thread that tries to explain how the moon is just a optical illusion created by the reflection of the sun light off the sides of the huge "Snowball" that the earth and sun are apparently in.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go jump off the building roof..

Amen to that although it is only natural. No theory can fit all the cases. All scientists should know that.

My curiosity beat me this time and I went there again. After reading briefly a few threads, the only meme that came to my mind was:

Thats nonsense to the max.

In our case we had researchers from the culture itself doing the research. We had translations and backtranslations. In total more than 300 cultures. The HRAF database has more ethnic diversity in researchers than th research.

You are propagating a popular but very faulty view. You must like that.

I am in the mood for some religion bashing though. Who takes it up? My tolerance level for dogmatic stupidity has reached a new low. Try me.

Here: http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php Bash away.

I will.

Tom, what Nour just said... and I'm not interested in having that argument. First because I feel it's pointless, second is filled with self-righteousness - that comes with both extremes (science and faith).

But really, human beings are influenced by their behavior (that is influenced by their beliefs) since humankind exists. It influences their body and I'm sure after thousands and thousands of years what molds their mind and affect their bodies might get into their genes as well. I won't delve into that for many reasons, but ignoring that is far-fetched imo.

So excuse me if I don't agree with you when it comes that whatever science - that btw changes its opinion about everything every couple of centuries since it exists - says applies to every human being in the world (especially matters such as anthropology). What is true today (for most, but not all) will remain as such until the next scientist comes with a new theory...

That's how the world moves, I'm thankful for scientists and all the advances they keep bringing. Having minors in psychology and extension courses in the field, shows I also look for science to find answers about the human being... but the fact remains theories are replaced every day...

And I'm not impressed at all by 300 different cultures. Asia alone has a few times that amount and that is without considering Africa and American indians. So for my part, I'm not interested into moving the argument along. I think it's a pretentious argument...

edit:

You are propagating a popular but very faulty view. You must like that.

go tell that to the cultures where incest and first degree relatives marriage is the best option of marriage because they want to keep the bloodline pure for whatever belief they have like I've watched documentaries about.

But hey as I said I'll just stand by my point above that for my part I'm not interested in having an argument about it. Especially when you're certainly very touchy about it. ;)

who said anything about the bible?

Unless we're discussing Adam and Eve - and we aren't - I don't think that applies. But it's very common to find people who consider religious people ignorant. The irony of that...

We were discussing INCEST which the bible supports your theory btw - and I'm disagreeing with you. What glasses do you have on, Tom Speelman?

Lol, what the biggest load of absolute bollocks i have ever read:

People have been into space. How have they not discovered that the earth is flat?

The most commonly accepted explanation of this is that the space agencies of the world are involved in a conspiracy faking space travel and exploration. This likely began during the Cold War's 'Space Race', in which the U.S.S.R and USA were obsessed with beating each other into space to the point that each faked their accomplishments in an attempt to keep pace with the others supposed achievements. However, since the end of the Cold War, the conspiracy is most likely motivated by greed rather than political gains. Thus opening up a tremendous amounts of funds to embezzle as it only takes a fraction of the total budget to fake space travel.

In light of the above, please note that we are not suggesting that space agencies are aware that the earth is flat and actively covering the fact up. They depict the earth as being round simply because that is what they expect it to be.

There are many pictures on the internet and in other media depicting the earth as being round. Why do these not disprove flat earth theory?

In general, we at the Flat Earth Society do not lend much credibility to photographic evidence. It is too easily manipulated and altered. Many of the videos posted here to "prove a round earth" by showing curvature will show no curvature or even convex curvature at parts. The sources are so inaccurate it's difficult to build an argument on them in either case. Furthermore, barrel distortion and other quirks of modern cameras will cause a picture to distort with little or no apparent altercation; especially without references within the picture. Photographs are also prone to distortion when taken through the bent glass of a pressurized cabin as well as atmospheric conditions on the outside. With this litany of problems, it's easy to see why photographic evidence is not to be trusted.

Like seriously, what a bunch of complete and utter bullshitters.

Someone trying to say that the people who trecked through the antartica didn't exist because people believe that Jesus didn't actually exist which is the same thing...

Some people are so deluded, it is beyond belief.
