A travelling Chelsea Under 18s side succumbed to a tough Arsenal team this weekend, conceding two goals in the final 10 minutes. It was a Chelsea side missing the influential Billy Knott, who hasscored on several occasions from the left flank this season. He wassuspended for the game.

Despite making several great saves earlier on, Chelsea keeper AldiHaxhia was finally beaten by Luke Freeman and Conor Henderson strikesas tiredness kicked in.

The loss mirrors last season's away meeting with the young Gunners, which ended 2-0 last October, with Freeman also finding the net on thatoccasion.

This time Chelsea began the stronger side as Marko Mitrovic brokeinto the area for a one-on-one with the keeper, only to see his shotdeflected from danger.

As the visitors continued to attack it was Jacopo Sala who would benext to see a chance stray wide, this time there was no deflection asinaccuracy denied the Blues an opener. Despite being an impressive gameto watch, there weren't that many chances on goal during the first halfbut within seconds of the restart Chelsea were threatening once more.

It was Mitrovic again as he attacked a clever cross to the near post, which was saved by the in-form Arsenal goalie.

Next, substitute Aliu Djalo who had replaced the injured JoshMcEachran (pictured) in midfield, had an on-target header tipped inchesover the bar as the Arsenal keeper kept his side in the game.

It was with only 10 minutes left on the clock that the hosts tookthe lead. Freeman beat Clifford on the left flank, broke into the boxand finally beat Haxhia who could only watch as the ball slipped overhis line.

Within five minutes the lead was doubled. This time a tired Haxhiafailed to hold onto a mediocre Henderson shot and the ball went intothe back of the net. It was a tough ending to a good display from theBlues.

'It was a very good Academy game,' said youth team manager Dermot Drummy after the game.

'We were really pleased with the side's performance all-in-all. Itwas a couple of individual mistakes that cost the game, but the boyswere tired and it was understandable.

'Overall they put in a really good performance,' added Drummy.

Chelsea (4-3-3):Aldi Haxhia; Billy Clifford, Danny Mills, Kenny Strickland, AzizDeen-Conteh; Josh McEachran (Aliu Djalo), Conor Clifford ©, JacopoSala; Milan Lalkovic, Marko Mitrovic, Gokhan Tore.

A few things worth noting on the back of this game.

1. At youth level our goalkeeping options are severly limited. With Sam Walker injured at the moment the highly dissapointing Haxhia is having to fill in, and he is just no way near the standard we should expect. The comments in the report of him being "tired" are just ridiculous, there is no reason for a keeper to be tired unless he has sub-standard fitness levels. Which at our level he shouldn't be anywhere near that level.

2. Still having massive concerns over Dermot Drummy. He doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of the players, concerns were raised when he took over last year and those concerns are still there. I cannot for the life of me believe the club can't get a better coach than him for our U18's, any chance of us winnin the youth cup are slim with him not getting the best out of these lads, that is a seriously good team weput out there.

3. That is basically the FA Youth cup team, Knott in for Deen-Conteh at left back and Bruma in for Strickland at centre back and that is the team i expect to see put out in the FA Youth cup... but hopefully they can perform better..

why the fuck isnt djalo anymore the captain, he was outstanding in the first 6 games i've watched, was he injured? He is a class act, we should train him a bit mor on the physical side, technically he could be a Decoesk player, when Deco was on his best...

greets

Woah calm down... Firstly the captain isn't always the technically best player, or the player with the most potential. We had three regulars in the reserves playing in the midfield in McEachran, Sala (Think he played vs Arsenal u18?) and Clifford - with Clifford having U21 experience too.

Yup, Djalo wasn't playing playing because we put out pretty much our strongest team, like Cameron said, those 3 midfielders have a lot of reserves experience so he isn't going to get in ahead of them! The FA Youth cup will be very interesting to see how Drummy gets these lads up for a proper game, the keeper situation is a worry for me because Haxhia is proving to be very poor indeed.
