Aesthetic Relic 301
Vital footballCole Made To Wait for Apology? Being a footballer can have its down side.Although the wages a top star earns are considered to be grotesque by many, nothing can prepare you for the invasion of privacy that many are subjected to.Indeed, in a country whereby the media has a penchant for intrusion, it cannot be nice to pick up a newspaper to see your face splashed all over it with an accusation made that you know to be false. In fact, the old saying, "no smoke without fire" comes to mind with regards to the good old British public. Therefore, it`s always pleasing to see the press eat a large slice of humble pie when they have to print a retraction about something they`ve published, as is the case with the Evening Standard last night (Thursday).Hidden away amongst its multitude of pages, we uncovered the following, On our article "Chelsea stars in 4am probe" on 8 October, we wrongly stated that Ashley Cole was questioned by the police following an incident outside a Chelsea restaurant and was now the subject of a police investigation. We accept that this was not the case and Mr Cole was neither questioned by the police nor is he a suspect in any ongoing investigation. We apologise to Mr Cole and his family for any distress or embarrassment caused. We suspect that the apology has been approved by Ashley but what causes us concern are the following points,1. Why was it hidden away in the relative obscurity of the inner pages of the paper? We doubt very much whether the original article was!2. Why has it taken until December 21st to print it when the original article was printed on October 9th?Reluctant to print the truth perhaps! EskWeston 696
The papers should be forced to give the same coverage to their apology for a false story that they gave the original one.
