A disappointing Under 18s' display resulted in a first defeat in four games, made worse by a red card for Billy Knott.Second best to West Ham throughout Saturday's game, the young Bluesmissed early chances when Knott flashed a great cross over and JoshMcEachran and George Saville had shots, but overall they did not startthe game well.

The Hammers took the lead through Robert Hall which put Chelsea even further on the back foot in difficult conditions.

Thirty seconds into the second-half, schoolboy centre-back DanielMills Pappoe was caught in possession and Hall scored again to make it2-0 for the home team.

Chelsea improved and Marko Mitrovic (pictured) converted a cross tomake it 2-1, the Swede's sixth youth team goal of the season, but morepoor defending allowed Conor Okus to score and it was 3-1 with 10minutes remaining.

Minutes earlier, left-back Knott, who has been in splendid form withfive youth team goals this season, was sent off for dissent.

Chelsea had a goal ruled out for offside late on and Bobby Devyne had a couple of chances but was denied by good goalkeeping.

'Billy Knott was against his old club and I spoke to him before thegame about the need to keep composed,' reports youth team managerDermot Drummy.

'He has to learn from his errors. We don't know if it is a one orthree-match ban yet and with the FA Youth Cup coming up, he could learnthe hard way.

'For the first time this season we didn't control the game. Lastweek I was not happy when we won but that was due to sloppy play. Thisweek it was making the wrong decisions and being technically poor.

'We tried to play our football on a very windy day but against ateam that pressured well, our first and second touches weren't thestandard required. Tactically we didn't find enough space.

'It was a very disappointing result because we had a number ofplayers who played in the reserves and they came down and didn'tperform.'

Chelsea: Aldi Haxhia, Ben Sampayo, Daniel Mills Pappoe, KennyStrickland, Billy Knott, George Saville, Kaby Djalo ©, BillyClifford, Josh McEachran, Milan Lalkovic (Bobby Devyne), Marko Mitrovic(Philipp Prosenik).
