millzy_chelsea_fan 4
Posted on: Wed 02 Sep 2009The squad list for the group stage of this season's Champions League has been announced.Clubs are allowed to submit an A List and a B List, both equally eligible for selection for games. Regulations mean the A List consists of the majority of the first team squad while young players who have been at Chelsea for a period of time make up List B.The squad lists are:A ListPetr CechBranislav Ivanovic Ashley ColeMichael EssienRicardo Carvalho Frank Lampard Joe ColeDidier DrogbaJohn Mikel ObiMichael Ballack Florent Malouda José BosingwaYury ZhirkovDecoSalomon Kalou Ross TurnbullDaniel SturridgeJohn TerryAlexJuliano Belletti Nicolas Anelka Henrique Hilario Sam HutchinsonB ListRhys Taylor Jeffrey BrumaGaël KakutaNo club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season. Eight places on List A are reserved for 'locally trained players'. A 'locally trained player' is either a 'club-trained player' or an 'association-trained player' and no club may have more than four 'association-trained players' listed among the eight.A 'club-trained player' is a player who, between the age of 15 and 21, and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or of 36 months. In the case of Chelsea, an 'association-trained player' is a player who, between the age of 15 and 21 and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with another club affiliated to the FA for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or of 36 months. These regulations mean Chelsea's A List will contain 23 players for this season's group stage. A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1988 and has been eligible to play for Chelsea for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday.Following the submission of these lists, a club may register up to three new eligible players for the remaining matches, such registration completed by 1 February. EskWeston 696
Ferreira and Matic miss out...... no big suprise thereSo, 2 squad members short this season. And that is only because we have included Sam Hutchinson in list A, that it great news for him, Hutchinson seems to have seriously impressed Ancelotti.Taylor, Bruma and Kakuta on list B, suprised we didn't add at least Borini as well considering you can have as many players on list B as you want....Still pretty much as we expected, hopefully we will be able in a year or 2 (hopefully next year) be able to have a full 25 man squad if we can include Mancienne plus one more. BlueLion. 21,491
No real surprises there, although I would have expected to see Borini on list B since Didier will be suspended for three games - if he gets injured, we "only" have Kalou and Sturridge as cover, but injuries tend to come to certain positions at the same time, funnily enough. Steve 10,227
But if we really needed we have players like joe cole or malouda who can sit up a bit higher and play like a striker. Or even play joe cole as that attacking midfield player who sits behind the anelka.
Shane 2,275
Yeah, If we have injury worries we can play a 4-4-1-1 with Joey tucking in behind Nico, I hope we give Hutchinson a start for Apeol (last game in the group stages) If we already qualified.Tbh if you look at any other squad and look at ours our strength in depth will be better IMO. EskWeston 696
Something worth pointing out is that Manchester United have named a 35 man squad for their CL Campaign, this includes filling all their 25 allocation completely and having 10 players in the "B" list which includes Anderson. Incidently last season we was able to include Mikel on our B list which helped us out immensely.

BlueLion. 21,491
I think so, yes. The amount of unfair pressure on him at the moment is terrible, feel really sorry for the lad.

EskWeston 696
Good to see Borini finally added to the B list, suprised he wasn't on there in the first place. The lad knows how to score goals and i would love to see him get an oppertunity to come on and have a crack at the first team.
BlueLion. 21,491
Would certainly be nice to see him play in a group match should we gain qualification early in the competition.

Stamford 3
I agree BL an early qualification would be good to see how he does against proper teams.
