Skysports.com understands Jack Cork is poised to sign a new deal at Chelsea before being sent out on loan.

Chelsea are believed to be keen to tie down the highly-rated Cork to a new three-year deal to ward off interest from other Premier League clubs.

The 20-year-old is highly regarded by the Chelsea coaching staff and is tipped for a big future in the game having represented England at every level from Under 16 to Under 21.

Cork, who can play in defence or midfield, has enjoyed spells out on loan at Bournemouth, Scunthorpe, Southampton and Watford in the last few seasons as Chelsea look for him to gain valuable first-team experience.

A number of Premier League clubs are believed to have sounded out a move for Cork this summer, but Chelsea are keen to keep hold of him.

However, Chelsea are open to the idea of loaning out Cork again and a host of Championship clubs are thought to be battling to land the player before the close of the transfer window

I'd have thought that if Cork has real aspirations to become a first team player for us, he'd have pushed for a PL club, but I suppose a short stint in the Championship, and moving to a first division side in January would be beneficial for him.

Talk in all the other reports are saying that Hull and Portsmouth want to bring him in. The club will have to asses if he will infact get the games there, but a Premier League club would be fantastic for him.

All the loans this season just go to show that really our academy IS producing some real talent. Aparently Sam Hutchinson could be off to West Brom for a loan as well...

Portsmouth would probably kill for him, they desperately need defensive cover already.

Depends where they would play him, we need playing in the midfield where he has developed into a classy player having previously played centre back or even right back. I wouldn't mind having him around our squad this season as cover especially during the ACN period, but the boy needs games like the rest of them. A premier league loan is perfect for him.

COVENTRY TAKE CORK ON LOAN
Posted on: Fri 21 Aug 2009 Jack Cork has today [Friday] joined Coventry City on a temporary transfer until 31 December.

The England Under 21 international has also signed a new three-year contract with Chelsea.

The move is Cork's third loan to a club in the Championship following spells with Southampton and Watford last season. He joins fellow Chelsea reserve squad member Patrick van Aanholt at Coventry.

Able to play in midfield or defence, Cork has been with Chelsea since the age of nine. He has yet to make his first team debut.

Coventry, who are managed by Chris Coleman and are currently fourth in their division, level on points with the leaders, play at home to Swansea tomorrow.

That is 13 young players now out on loan!!! - incredible.

I am very glad that Cork has signed a new contract. And the fact this loan is only until January means the club are clearly considering him as cover during the ACN period. Would be excellant to see him given that oppertunity and grab it with both hands.

agree 100% Esk, Corcky given a chance would b great.. and 13 players out on loan.. can only be good for them as players, and give them more experience, though maybe we should give one of 2 more of a chance at first team football at Chelsea.

That will come, Mancienne, Sinclair, Stoch and Di Santo obviously the closest as they have already been given their chances and it is reflected in their loans to the Premiership and to FC Twente.

Coventry City have signed Chelsea defender Jack Cork on-loan to the end of the year.

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman told the club's website: "This is another excellent addition to the squad and Jack is the second promising young Chelsea player to join our ranks this season.

"He is very highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge and he has already played close to 100 matches while on loan with other Football League clubs so has good experience for his age.

"We made a substantial offer for Jack earlier in pre-season to bring him to the club permanently but Chelsea did not want to sell which shows how much they think of him - and how highly we consider him.

"That said, we are delighted that they have let him come out on loan to us and this is further sign of what we are trying to achieve at the club.

"We are still hoping to make further additions before the transfer window closes and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to make that happen."
