Chelsea Youth 5 Bristol City Youth 4

Recommended Posts

Chelsea's youth side completed an impressive comeback against Bristol City at Cobham on Friday morning. In the absence of regular coach Dermot Drummy, Ade Viveash, who has been working with Neil Bath in the reserves took the side, and watched the youngsters fall two goals behind inside 12 minutes, both goals courtesy of a strong visiting centre-forward.

The first was hit well through a crowd of bodies, taking Chelsea goalkeeper Sam Walker by surprise, and the second was taking advantage of some slack defending to put his side two in front.

Chelsea made it 2-1 through Mark Mitrovic after a right-sided free-kick from Josh McEachran was bent in, and headed back across the goalkeeper by the Swedish forward at the far post, with 20 minutes gone.

On 35 minutes City went 3-1 up, a ball played into the channels behind the Blues, with a low cross nicked past the goalkeeper.

Viveash opted to make a few planned changes at half-time, and for the first 20 minutes the boys played some great football but could not score, only to net four in the next 10 minutes.

Milan Lalkovic, who came on at half-time, netted our second after a lovely ball from Kaby, racing on, beating the keeper and finding the bottom corner.

The same player levelled the scores with a right-footed shot across the keeper before claiming his hat-trick and putting us in front with his left, again across the keeper.

Finally for the Blues, Josh McEachran scored the pick of the goals, a 30-yard free-kick bent around a five-man wall into the top corner.

It had taken huge effort to reach that point and it showed, as a goal was quickly conceded, allowing the west country opposition back into the game, but despite a nervy last few minutes and some last-ditch defending, the boys saw out the victory, especially thanks to some superb goalkeeping from Aldi Haxhia.

There is a lot to work on but it is still pre-season. They are a good group, they have great desire which we questioned at half-time, and it shone through after a few subtle changes,' Viveash said.

Chelsea (4-4-2 diamond): Sam Walker (Aldi Haxhia 60); Billy Clifford, Triallist, Tom Hayden, Aziz-Deen Conteh (George Saville h-t); Kaby Djalo, James Ashton (Ben Sampayo h-t), Josh McEachran, Conor Clifford (Tom Rodgers h-t), Marko Mitrovic, Bobby Devyne (Milan Lalkovic h-t).

Interesting to see both the youths and the reserves adopting the diamond midfield. The youth team conceding goals again, which is something i would like to see them deal with this season, although going forward and in midifled we have an exceptional group of talented players.

I sometimes wonder if the person writing these reports actually watches the games! It's OK Esk, I know it's from the main Chelsea site, not you!

Mitrovic scored 3, not Lalkovic (he got 1) and it was Ashton's crossed free-kick for the first, not MacEachran. You'd think it would be hard to mix these two up, with one being blond and the other being left-footed.

You're right about the goals though, that's a couple of forced comebacks in two weeks.

Yes it was Mitrovic that got 3 and not Lalkovic, it is poor for the Official site to not get this right......

It was the same last season, conceding too many goals and having to score a bundle to be able to win a game.
