Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm that Frank Arnesen is to become sporting director with immediate effect.

He will continue with his roles relating to the Reserves and Academy but will also now take on responsibilities relating to the co-ordination of first team activity and supporting the first team manager.

Frank will continue to report to the chief executive, Peter Kenyon.

As Chelsea continues to grow rapidly, the board wanted increased senior support for the first team and new manager on a daily basis at Cobham to help assist the overall long-term football and business strategy of the club.

Arnesen takes on new Chelsea role

Chelsea have appointed Frank Arnesen as their sporting director to help new first-team manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Arnesen will take on the role in addition to his responsibilities as chief scout and director of youth.

A Chelsea statement said: "He will continue with his roles relating to the reserves and academy.

"But he will also now take on responsibilities relating to the co-ordination of first team activity and supporting the first team manager."

Arnesen moved to Stamford Bridge in 2005 after a stint at Tottenham and joined the club's board in May 2009.

"As Chelsea continues to grow rapidly, the board wanted increased senior support for the first team and new manager on a daily basis at Cobham to help assist the overall long-term football and business strategy of the club," added the club statement.

That's the report from the BBC with a wee bit of extra info on it. Glad to see that he is still overseeing the scouting at the club though. The guy has a fantastic eye for talent.

Pure joke this is... he's done fuck all in terms of finding fine youth with a few exceptions. Mourinho said that he was at fault for the lack of young talents, and that is true. What a joke, I can't fucking believe it.

If Ancelotti likes him though, then it makes sense to have the people like around you. Though Carlo should listen to Ray Wilkins alone and no-one else, the man is a right-hand genius
