BlueLion. 21,491
Chelsea Football Club can confirm that we have reached agreement with CSKA Moscow for the transfer of Yuri Zhirkov. The player is in London today and will join Chelsea subject to a medical and agreement of personal terms. From the official site. I've changed the topic title because he hasn't actually joined just yet

Term-X 7,891
Left midfield ^ so we are probably buying a sub unless malouda's ok with being a bench player.
BlueLion. 21,491
I don't see any reason why Malouda, Zhirkov and Cole can't be rotated like Duff, Robben and Cole under Mourinho.

Absolutely, having the competition is healthy and brings out the best of the players as we saw during the time when the mentioned above were in the same team. DavidEU 2,023
The only difference with the Robben/Duff combination is that they were both capable of playing on the right and left. Can't remember ever seeing Malouda there and don't think Zhirkov will play there either. Inevitably one or both of them will be tried and tested on the right though. Depends a lot on the manager i guess. Robben and duff were very effective comming off the right flank, but neither of them really had a right foot, so i am sure if we wanted them too Malouda and Zhirkov could do the same. BlueLion. 21,491
Joe can play on either flank, so we can have Joe on the right and Kalou/Zhirkov on the left. Having three of them also compensates for injury to one of them.

DavidEU 2,023
From Sport Express, in Russia: Chelsea newcomer Yuri Zhirkov shares his impressions on his first day in London with Sport Express readers. Yesterday the Russian midfielder Yuri Zhirkov passes his medical in Chelsea. When its results are announced the player will sign the contract with the London club. Meanwhile Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti said at press conference that he considers the Russian player to be a member of his team. Yuri Zhirkov told Sport Express correspondent about his first day in London yesterday. "The time difference between London and Russia is only three hours so I managed to have a good sleep and watch a film in the morning", said Zhirkov. "After that I went to the medical center." "Procedure of medical examination took me around three hours. First of all I passed general examination and then doctors put me to the special chamber to learn my organism". "I understood several phrases in English. When they told me “lie down”, “get up” and other words I couldn’t do without an interpreter. However there was a man who spoke Russian and he explained me everything". ""I have already been offered accommodation so that I could determine where I will live in London, but I think I shouldn’t hurry with it. I need to decide this question with my wife, so when Inna comes to London we will do it". "I haven’t been at Chelsea’s stadium and training base yet, but I will do it on Tuesday. I also will get acquainted with the coaching staff and players as I will hold the first training with the team". "To be honest I came to London not being well prepared for work and I even didn’t take my clothes with me. When I told the club’s representatives about my problem, they said that I shouldn’t worry about it". "Now I am at perfect mood as I like the way people accepted me in the club. Though I spent too little time here I managed to feel their friendly attitude to me. I am looking forward to starting my work in Chelsea". "I would be glad to return to Moscow as I need to say goodbye to CSKA managers, coaches and players and with al those people who are connected with the club where I spent so many happy years and achieved success. CSKA will stay in my heart forever". "Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlyuchenko advice to learn the English language as soon as possible and I clearly understand its importance". http://english.sport-express.ru/summary/1_4092/
