Luka Modric

Yes and as usual, what I highly rate about Porto is that they buy replacements out of the unknown to replace them. Look at James Rodriguez, Danilo and Defour. Iturbe and recently signed Jackson Martinez will turn into the next Falcao I am sure

It´s our way of keeping competitive.

I think there will be more pleased Spurs fans than upset. If Chelsea had Modric and he wanted to leave, would you rather sell him to Madrid for £24m, or to one of your closest rivals (let's use United for example), which will improve their team greatly, for £40m?

Madrid for me.

No, they should be pretty pissed. This is pretty much second to the worst scenario possible. They could have either kept him or gotten so much more money for him until AVB decided to screw up everything, and now they have no Modric, less money, and they're going to have a hard time trying to purchase Moutinho because Porto is a very smart club.

Don't agree with this. If we were talking a couple of mill difference then yes but we're talking potentially in excess of £15m - that is almost what spurs have paid to buy Sigurdsson AND Vertonghen!

A big club would have no qualms selling to a league rival for that difference in money as they would be confident of using such money to improve their squad. They also generally know when best to offload a player. As Spurs can't offer champions league they know they'll struggle to replace modric and have well and truly made a mess of this!

It's not an excess of 15M difference. The add-ons will probably take the Madrid deal to about 30-35M. So, they lost out on probably about 5-10M pounds, but got to keep Modric for a year and got to sell him out of England. In retrospect, they probably should have sold him to Chelsea last season (40M is an insane offer for a central midfielder) but they didn't know they were going to miss out on the CL and be forced to get rid of Modric. Under the circumstance, 30M is definitely a decent price but we'll see how they choose to spend it. Not nearly as worried about Spurs as I am about the Manchester clubs.
