The need for Modric or a player like him is because currently the only player we have who can dictate the tempo of a game is Lampard and we can't rely on him for a whole season. Mceachran could be an option, but his defensive game isn't good game and its the same for De Bruyne, don't even get me started on Meireles. With the players we got, our game is gonna be a lot more about possession and keeping hold of the ball and thats why we need a midfield distributor in there. Obviously this would only be possible if we get rid of Essien and even possibly Meireles if we plan to keep one of KDB and Josh

By forward I mean players who are supossed to beat their man, english and german players rarely do that.

I would rather trust Paul Scholes then some aussie forum "expert"(srsly for how long do u even have football on TV, 5 years?And how many games have you watched live?(and no Schri lanka and Fiji don't count)).

Asian teams and qualifiers are joke.Australia even with population 3x more then Bulgaira, made all their world cup apearences only because of the crap (semi-amateur) teams u regulary play for qualifying and also not even in your grandchilds life u will ever be 4th in the world and have golden ball winner like we did in 1994.If some of you think that a midfield duo of Lamps-Mikel is good enough (and consistent) to challenge for PL and defend CL(and say there's no place for player like Modric), then I feel poor for your football knowledge.

It does my head in when Modric's goal and assist's stats are used to 'prove' he isn't that great a player like FFS he isn't Mata, Silva or Van Der Vaart goals and assist's aren't his main area.

He dictates the play from deep, spraying balls around, taking players out of the game there-fore making space for the forward players to get their assist's then goals. He is the vital link from midfield to attack, if Spurs lose him they are in serious trouble.

If Modric ever plays for us then expect lots of Modric to Mata to (insert goalscorers name here).

It's spelt 'Sri Lanka'. You're the one acting like an 'expert'. The fact does not change that you thought Gotze was a forward. Shows how much you know, just about everyone knows he is a midfielder. The need for you to attack me shows you're bad at arguments and have nothing to say to defend your point of view. A forward is not a man who 'beats the opponent', what a stupid definition. A forward is a CF/Second striker and to a slightly lesser extent the wingers. Who brought up assists exactly?

Anyway he's a deep lying midfielder, it's common sense stats shouln't be brought into it, Modric usually makes the 2nd assists and makes the play happen in the first place.
