Im excited to see santos and delap

Although not with us, im excited to see Estaveo against top defenses. Also excited to see the team use this comp to gel together. It is a great way for Delap and Santos to have meaningful minutes with the team before the new season.

We seem to have a favourable draw. It gives us a chance to progress to the last sixteen and, if we avoid Bayern at that stage, we might even be favourites to make the last eight. That would be a good, and profitable, outcome.

Quarters should really be a minimum with the draw we got. I am actually quite interested in this competition. It will be fun to see some us play new teams. My only concern is how it affects us next season.

As for the tournament itself, I find it hard to look past PSG for the eventual winners.

I'm looking forward to my first real viewing of Santos. I saw nothing whatsoever which impressed me during the youth international tournament where he received rave reviews, and I have not watched him at Strasbourg. This will be my chance to catch up so I hope he gets significant minutes.

So if we lose quarters that is exactly 6 weeks before PL starts. Players will get 3 maybe close to 4 weeks vacation. We won't have usual USA pre season tour but probably play a couple of games in UK. Looks fine to me.

What I find even more baffling is how the club renounced 7 squad slots for no apparent reason, leaving us with just one right-footed winger and one leftback. Other teams like Atlético or Bayern have registered 30+ players to give some youngsters a chance. Sure, most will not play much after the group stages but even if it is just a couple of mins vs LAFC, for their development it can be invaluable to train and travel with the senior squad.
Also bizarre how the club decided to bring along only Santos from the loan army (allegedly bc they see the cwc as still ‚this season‘) but already sent home Sancho

The Santos situation is two fingers to all players who were out on loan hoping for a chance here (Veiga, Lesley, Petrovic, etc). If Maresca has had no impact on this, it makes this decision more infuriating.

A pointless tournament,  which we won't win it, nor is there any point in it, instead of the players resting they will play some stupid games .

I agree the players are playing too many games. If they are going to play, I would rather it be this than another US summer tour. I think this will help players like Delap, Essugo, and Santos to bed into the team against quality opponents. It also lets the team get a glimpse of the step up from Europa Conference to Champions League opponents
