Please, everybody looks better than Messi on youtube. I've watched Maicon more than 20 times last season. He had a couple of decent performaces and a single world-class performance vs Milan. Other wise he looked terrible, but then again so did all of Inter's defense, so I'm reserving my judgement just yet. But I can't see him replicating the form of 09-10 season.

and in terms of Pirlo why do you think Milan let him go? Milan are famous for prolonging players careers they let him go because they thought he wouldn't fully recover from his injury and that he would never return to the level he was once at! they were wrong, he did recover that is why he is back doing what he does best not because of 'his experience' SMH

Really? Come on, it's not like we're buying some classles anonymous player from the Russian second league (no disrespect). He's a Champions League winner, he was the best right back in the world a few years ago. And it's not like he's 42. He is 31, he can still help us.

Not true, Milan let him go because Alegri wanted a 'playerbreaker' rather than a 'playmaker' in front of the defense that is why he moved Ambrosini there and Pirlo to LCM. Then Pirlo got injured and then Van Bommel came in to sit in front of the back four and Seedorf came into to the LCM and was outstanding so there was no where for Pirlo to play, then he gets injured again so Milan felt the best thing to do was to let him go.

Should not really discard a player with great experience out like that very fast. Especially when he will be rotated, and will get more time to rest.

Well he is not one of a kind, cause when he played regularly the last 2 years he was pretty bad.

It was when he was being rotated he was more fresh and thus had more in his cannon to take it to the next lvl in certain games.

Expect the same with Maicon if he is kept fresh via rotation.

Well yes, he left because of Allegry preferred a different type of player to play in the DM position, but that is a tactical choice, it does not mean that they thought he wasn't good enough. They even offered him a contract extension which he refused.

The way I see things with Maicon is that a couple of years ago he was arguably the best all round right back in the world and certainly the best attacking right back. Those attacking instincts won't have disappeared. Yes, he wasn't great last season but he was by no means poor. He can still get up and down the pitch - he's 30 not fucking 40 (and remember is younger than Ashley Cole)! And his ability in the final third could potentially give us an extra dimension to our attack, especially against the smaller teams who will defend deeper.

Ivanovic is the better defender, but if you look at the other right backs available - Debuchy, etc are all more in the Ivanovic mould then they are Maicon. Maicon is still the best attacking right back currently available on the market. He will provide something different to Ivanovic and that is important for us next season, having different options.

The report somebody posted a couple of pages ago made for interesting reading, and provided evidence that when given sufficient rest, Ashley Cole and Maicon are still two of the very best full backs in world football. We as fans have been clamouring for Cole to be rested for games for ages, and since Robbie has done so Cole's performances have been generally excellent again. Being managed in the same way Maicon can have a similar impact.

This transfer will give us 7 defenders in our first team squad (Cole, Bertrand, Maicon, Ivanovic, Terry, David Luiz, Cahill) who I would feel confident seeing any combination of lining up. I haven't felt that way about our defence for a long time.

The whole point is that for every Deco there is a Makelele.

For every Shevchenko there is a Zola.

Age should not be the one deciding factor on buying a player and Maicon is still one of the best right backs around, particularly offensively. The transfer fee being bandied around on the internet seems very reasonable too.
