Millwall Youth 0 Chelsea Youth 3

Chelsea's youth team returned to winning ways this weekend, totally controlling a match against local rivals. The contest was all but over after just half-an-hour with the young Blues having raced into a 3-0 lead. The opener came on 12 minutes. Centre-forward Frank Nouble (pictured) made a surging run forward and was brought down about 25 yards out on the left-hand side. Miroslav Stoch sent over an excellent in-swinging free-kick into the danger area, the keeper came for it but Jeffrey Bruma, up from the back, got across the front of him and toed it in. Millwall had a big chance on 22 minutes when Patrick van Aanholt got caught on the ball at the back, they broke through but the chance was missed. Chelsea grabbed hold of the game again and Stoch scored on 25 minutes. Gaël Kakuta found him with an excellent ball into the box, and the young Slovakian showed good feet to turn and make space and slot past the keeper. Chelsea scored again five minutes later when Stoch played Nouble in. He feinted left, went right and cut the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner. Well in control with Lee Sawyer especially influential in midfield, Chelsea continued to press and Kakuta had a really good chance on 41 minutes from a Bruma cross but just put it over the bar from six yards. A further chance in the second-half fell to Michael Woods, found by a superb Kakuta ball, but one-on-one, the keeper saved it. Following the final whistle a pleased youth team coach, Paul Clement said: 'With no league reserve team fixture this week, we were able to put out a strong youth side. We were only missing Nana Ofori-Twumasi through suspension and Jacob Mellis who had concussion from a midweek friendly game we played against Reading. At half-time, we spoke about how we were in control and were playing well, passing it from the back. Millwall were playing a very direct style and really it was only going to be a mistake from us that would let them back in. We needed to be professional. 'We wanted to go on and score more in the second-half but Millwall played a bit better and we didn't quite maintain our levels, but at 3-0 the game was already over.'
