I fully believe there is something political going on as you cannot be as bad as he is and continue to get picked

I know the people behind him waiting to play aren't much better but this guy will cost us more than he saves us.

He's the worst starting keeper I have seen at Chelsea for years and years

Not sure it is political. Rather blind faith in data/algorithms. I think what has happened is that the underlying stats/data the club have on him, has him as a beast with issues he needs to iron out. This essentially makes the club believe that give him x amount of minutes, he will rapidly become great, so a bit like a pokemon evolve.

Personally, I do not see him changing much as most of his issues are concentration based and he is now at an age where he isn't going to improve the lapses much.

To continue to rely on Sanchez as first choice shows the club's status and ambitions,  Petrovic last season was better than him  and he is now a starter without problems despite the fact that he alone dropped 10 points this season.

He really wasn't.

Ya it is what we thought.

He just talking good because right now he is here.

In the summer he will replace him.

This is why I say we need to have coach continuity. He knows now better his team after once full season and will know what we need in the summer.

If we get another coach then a lot of the dead wood will stay because the new coach will want to asses.

I like maresca and I hope he continues with us.

EXCLUSIVE: Man City earmark Diogo Costa as Ederson replacement

https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/01/exclusive-man-city-earmark-diogo-costa-as-ederson-replacement

Manchester City will go into the transfer market to replace goalkeeper Ederson, with Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa now Pep Guardiola’s top target for the position, FootballTransfers has learned.

Sources have indicated that Diogo Costa, 25, is the man that Man City want as their first-choice keeper next term as Ederson’s place at the club comes increasingly under threat from Stefan Ortega.

FootballTransfers understands that talks are already underway, with a potential transfer for the summer quickly gaining momentum.

History-maker Costa an ideal Ederson replacement

Ederson, whose position has been questioned after Ortega's rise, may well be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium, with strong interest from Saudi Arabian clubs and tempting financial offers. The Saudi Pro League’s lucrative deals are likely to prove too good to ignore, leaving Guardiola in need of a reliable replacement.

Costa’s performances this season have been highly impressive. In 2024/2025, he has kept 11 clean sheets in just 17 Liga matches, conceding only 11 goals - averaging 0.65 goals per 90 minutes. This form has already seen him linked with numerous clubs, with Manchester United previously interested in the Portugal international keeper.

Indeed, it’s not just his club form that has turned heads. Costa has also shone on the international stage, most notably during UEFA Euro 2024, where he made history by saving three penalties in a shootout against Slovenia in the round of 16, earning the Man of the Match award.

So why does Costa make sense for Manchester City?

Beyond his impressive abilities, the goalkeeper would be joining familiar faces in Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, both Portugal internationals. This camaraderie would help him settle quickly in Manchester, both on and off the pitch.

Furthermore, Costa shares the same agency as his compatriots, which should help smooth the negotiation process and help secure his move to the Premier League.

At just 25, Costa has the potential to be Manchester City’s long-term solution in goal. With his talent, experience, and connections to the club, a move to Guardiola’s side seems like a perfect fit.

not just benched him, demoted him to 3rd string

Maresca is destroying his reputation defending this clown

Quite on the contrary; that's how they build their reputation in the game. Players will know that however poorly they may be playing, the manager will always have their backs.
The fact that he's protecting Sanchez so much only means, to me, that *Sanchez requires that much protecting*.
Managers criticize their star players, their best players, or at least mention it's a bad spell or whatnot. That never happens with the actual poor players.

Funny thing is, thats what a number of the Brighton fans said as soon as we signed him.  They all said this guy needs reassurance from the manager and can't deal with criticism in his game.

Imagine Brighton's delight when they realised we actually paid them 25 million to take a bang average 3rd choice keeper from them.

Sanchez and a natural goalscorer are the 2 reasons why we're going to be finishing 6th or lower this season.

People on this forum laughed when I said City/Newcastle would catch up to us as apparently they have injuries and out of form players....the biggest red flag for Maresca was the loss to Ipswich, that was one of the most pathetic displays I've seen this season.

This is on the board, no club with any kind of aspirations can have a GK like Sanchez in goal and expect to get results. This is absolutely baffling

it is somewhat on the board. but also on maresca picking him. both over jørgensen, but also over petrovich or literally any other of the million keepers.
