Could have kept him and saved the money we spent on Gittens

Worried we are not going to be adding a winger/attacking mid before the window closes

I think we all were saying before we bought him that we massively overpaid for Gittens. Still such a strange deal for that much money.

I guess this is where the Garnacho deal actually could work out despite me not rating him either. Could take some pressure off Gittens until he settles in since he’s PL experienced.

Sunderland are ready to send a formal bid for Axel Disasi.

Bournemouth is also interested, and they can offer a loan with an option to buy, not mandatory. Two other top clubs are monitoring.

🤑Sunderland could not loan in Axel Disasi as they already have Marc Guiu on loan.

Arsenal plot move for £80m Chelsea transfer target Morgan Rogers after Kai Havertz injury

Alarm bells were ringing when Havertz did not train with his teammates in an open session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

And it now appears that the German international has suffered a knee injury, although the severity is not yet known.

The summer signing of Viktor Gyokeres means Arsenal don’t, for now, have to deploy Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker as they did for large parts of last season.

However, reports do suggest that the Gunners are considering going back into the market to provide themselves with additional cover for the injured Havertz.

And according to The Sun, Villa and England star Rogers is a name prominent in their thoughts.

Mikel Arteta’s side were credited with interest in Rogers earlier in the summer window, but may step up their interest in the wake of Havertz’s injury.

Rogers, who started Villa’s first game of the season against Newcastle, has become a vital cog in Unai Emery’s side and registered 18 goal contributions in the Premier League last season.

And having let Jacob Ramsey depart to Newcastle for £40million, Villa are in no need to sell such a key player and could demand as much as £80m for Rogers.

The versatile 23-year-old can play across the midfield and is also highly thought of by Chelsea, who have been linked with a move should their pursuit of Xavi Simons prove unsuccessful.

Rogers, who joined from Middlesbrough in January 2024, signed a new contract in November last year, which does not expire until the summer of 2030.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have also been keen on signing a new left-winger before the transfer deadline, but may have to sell first to raise funds for a move.

Leandro Trossard was linked with a move away from the Emirates at points this summer, but the Belgian now appears set to sign a new contract on improved terms.

The Gunners were also linked with a move for Eberechi Eze earlier in the summer, but the Crystal Palace midfielder now looks set to join Tottenham in a deal worth around £60m.

After their opening weekend victory over Manchester United, Arsenal host Leeds United at the Emirates on Saturday as they look to continue their perfect start to the season.

Tottenham plot transfer hijack; can pip Chelsea to 22-year-old attacker Xavi Simons

https://tothelaneandback.com/2025/08/26/tottenham-plot-transfer-hijack-can-pip-Chelsea-to-22-year-old-attacker/

Tottenham Hotspur have been on the hunt for a new attacking midfielder ever since James Maddison suffered an injury. The former Foxes playmaker tore his ACL in a pre-season game against Newcastle United and is out for the foreseeable future.

To make matters worse, second-choice number 10, Dejan Kulusevski is also out now with an injury. The Swede has been missing since the start of pre-season and there is no clarity on when he is expected to be back this season.

Thomas Frank is currently being forced to play Pape Matar Sarr as the number 10 in the opening games of the Premier League season. The Senegalese international is playing as a box-crasher but is not as creative as the injured options.

Since the transfer market is still open, signing a new player is a realistic possibility. Now, as per Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a transfer hijack and could pip Chelsea to the signature of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

The 22-year-old Dutch playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for almost the entire summer. However, with Chelsea still not getting their sales over the line, a move for him is currently in the hold.

Johan Lange & co. are now looking to swoop in and make the most of this opportunity. Although Chelsea still remain frontrunners for Simons’ signature and have a verbal agreement in place with the player, there isn’t long left to go in the transfer window.

This has created a small window of opportunity that Tottenham should be taking. The ex-PSG attacker is an excellent player in his own right and has been on RB Leipzig’s most influential players in the past couple of seasons.

He is very versatile and can play in an array of positions in the attack. Frank can initially use him as a #10 to fill the void but can also use him on the left-wing or through the middle once injured players return.

Signing Simons would be a massive statement of intent from Tottenham. However, with Chelsea having a verbal agreement in place, it might not be easy to convince the Dutchman and let’s wait and see how it plays out.

Any chance we do loans with obligations on both Simons and Garnacho to get around the UEFA conditions?

I think it's possible with Garnacho, not so much with Simons. Garnacho is outcast, MU need to get rid of him or his value will decrease even more. Leipzig made it clear they are not desperate to sell Xavi, he keeps starting for them, they are ok with him staying.

I guess do we really need Simons with Paez joining  next season.

This is laughable, we signed Gittens for 50+ million, he's not some 'project' player that was signed for 15-20 million.

As I said at the time Dortmund must be happy to have offloaded him for that sort of price tag.   People forget that Arsenal did scouting on Gittens as well but when they realised Dortmund wanted 50+ million, they switched to Madueke and Eze.

He absolutely is a project player in my eyes. In terms of ability, that is. You can just watch him so far in a Chelsea shirt and see he’s still raw and nowhere near the finished article. The silly price we paid for him doesn’t change that.

The Garnacho deal feels nailed on the Simons one not so much so

Still think we get both done but we need to get moving now as we do not want to be left come the window close with two players who aren't going to play. Jackson simply cannot stay, there is nowhere for him to come in, Delap and Pedro have the CF position covered and the wings are overloaded

I get the feeling we may be stuck with Nkunku as there's little interest in a permanent transfer.

As for Jackson, its either Villa (on loan...as they can't afford permanent deal) or maybe Newcastle.
