Chelsea Transfers

According to an exclusive from 90min.com, Chelsea are looking to bring in another striker in January and have target Bordeaux’s English-born Nigerian striker Josh Maja.

Maja broke through at Sunderland before making the surprising move to France last season. He’s been impressive but tends to be used as a sub rather than a starter, which could explain why he’s only scored seven goals in 22 games.

The report indicates that Chelsea have been impressed with Maja when they’ve watched him this season, to the point they are considering making a move for him in January to act as the new back up to Abraham.

There’s no mention of how much he might cost at this point, but it would surely throw the futures of Giroud and Batshuayi into doubt. It’s not clear if someone from the current squad would need to leave first, but it’s a name for Chelsea fans to watch out for in Janaury.

But on the flip side, the young guys here have made the step up quite easily, and there's Dan James at United.

I don't include our young players because we already knew about them beforehand. There are players who can make that step up but if people are just gonna assume it's gonna work because it's a left-field signing, then they could be in for a disappointment.

I would, he's sublime. The only issue is it's nearly impossible to get rid of Kepa without a massive loss.

Don't think we would need to sell Kepa, unless he really goes off the rails or goes full blown Karius but we arguably need someone to challenge him for the No.1 spot. And heck, get a new GK coach as well!

I think with the market inflation the top clubs are going to have to be a bit more proactive and scout potential themselves.

Should this lad say go to Leicester or even return to Brighton and prove himself as a PL player he'd cost an obscene amount of money.

If he's seen as a potentially top class player then now would be the only time to get him at a reasonable price.

I didn't like Frank's statement that we need offensive reinforcement to replace Hazard goals and creativity. I'm mean that is true but he also said he's happy with what we have at the back. Are we going to be Liverpool before they signed VVD, Alisson, Robertson...? Scoring for fun but also conceding goals for fun. Klopp needed more than three years to fix his defence. Stupid people learn from their own mistakes and smart people from the mistakes of the others. We need top world class defenders right now!

We definitely need a new left back. Regarding CB, I want to see how the Rudiger and Tomori partnership goes first.

We have 150m pounds to spend in January?

Ake 40m, Werner 25m, Telles 35m. Zaha 50m plus Michy. There you go. Perfect January transfer window and pretty much realistic. Yes I want Sancho and Chilwell but they are not available in January. Plus sell Pedro, Giroud, Christensen, Alonso and Barkley. We will have money in the summer for other targets.

It's no guarantee that this rumoured £150m is just for January. It could be Lampard's transfer budget for Jan and the summer before selling any players.

If that is true no issues. 150m net spend for both windows is more than enough.

We can get 40m for Christensen, 40m for Zouma, 30m for Alonso, 30m for Barkley, 10-15m for Pedro and Giroud.

Not to forget 50m for Morata will come next summer

Pasalic, Bakayoko, Drinkwater and all the others on loan will get us a lot of money as well.

Try for Oblak again (with Kepa as makeweight) and if we fail

then Onana or maybe, as a 3rd option, Alex Meret

Oblak for cash + Kepa might just be attractive enough for Atletico because he's highly rated and regarded in Spain.

Not sure how much cash they would want though.

Before we signed Kepa we activated Oblak's release clause of 100m but he didn't want to come here.

Some of these names I'm seeing us linked to are great and others are players I've literally never heard of and are the sorts of signings Europa League level clubs would go for.

We need players that will instantly and significantly improve us. Werner, Sancho etc is the level we have to be shopping for. Not lads from the Championship or dudes at small French clubs. We already have loads of young, inexperienced players who have potential. We don't need anymore gambles or risks. We need ready made stars.

When you're Liverpool you can afford to take a punt on a Japanese forward from Germany. Their team is already stacked. When you're trying to reach Liverpool's level like we are you can't do that.

Not always.

Think of the players in Liverpool's current squad that looks like it may break the points record, did any of them (bar Alison) at the point of signing did you think that was a top player who would elevate them?

There's more players around than you think, especially in team orientated systems.

40 to 50m quid (his release clause is 100 million pounds) plus Kepa

and I would be shocked if they gave us more than 60m in valuation for Kepa

IF we did pull him for Kepa plus £40m

we only would have ended up overpaying by £12m (vesus a straight buy)' as we spent 72m on Kepa and then add in the 40m

I could live with a 12m quid fuckup

better than the combined £300m plus or so we shit away on non timely sales and bad buys just for Willian, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Alonso, Higs (loan + salary), Eden, Luiz, and Cuntois

(not even going into others like Baka, Bats, Azpi, Baba, etc etc )
