Not exactly the same though. I'm pretty sure a move to Chelsea was Koundé's first priority since last summer and if the club acted fast he'd have already joined.

Now since it became clear Koundé was more of a Marina target and Tuchel/Boehly had other priorities (MdL, Koulibaly, even Aké) I think Koundé got tired of waiting and started talking to Barca instead.

at least Kounde just has 23 years old. its young enough to, in the future provide us a good feed with a possible sale!

Jules Kounde is very close to being transferred to Chelsea. Except for a radical change, the English club hopes that the agreement will be closed next week. Xavi spoke with the player and convinced him to go to Barça, but Chelsea bets more strongly.

Lots of complaints about Koundé’s height here and elsewhere but United have just signed a genuinely tiny CB for £55m. Koundé looks gigantic compared to Lisandro Martinez.

It makes more sense to prioritise Kounde over Kimpembe. 

Kounde will take that RCB spot and Koulibaly the LCB.

Nothing we can really do this summer in midfield. Too many bodies there already.
