The dumbest thing about some of these players we’re linked with is that they should be pretty straightforward and easy.

Take Sterling for example. Everyone knows he wants to leave City, everyone knows he wants to come to Chelsea, City are said to be perfectly willing to let him go, and all credible sources have put forward a price that is widely thought acceptable to City. So why isn’t that deal done yet?

Likewise, Koundé. We’ve known for like a year what Sevilla want, the player wants out, Sevilla themselves have been openly stating that he can go, and we desperately need CB’s. Again, how is a deal for him not done and dusted?

Some of the bigger deals like De Ligt are understandably taking longer but Sterling has no other suitors but us…

Sterling - This is probably just ironing out the wages/bonuses. Sterling knows he can wait a year then go on a free and essentially pick up a large proportion of his market value as a signing on fee. He is also a high earner and we know we have difficulty within the squad with wages as those on lower wages aren't happy that some underperforming players are on more. This issue cost us Rudiger and we have James and Mason that need renewing asap. We need to get that package right which isn't probably what Sterling wants.

That deal may be easy from a club to club agreement but I wouldn't say it is from the wages and squad dynamics perspective.

Kounde - Appears to me he was a target for the previous board and he has now dropped down the pecking order. Additionally Seville are right 🔔's so making them wait until later in the window (I think they probably need to sell him) is a more logical thing to do as there isn't anyone else out there that can afford him who want him.

Additionally, MDL is looking like the principal priority right now, so focus is on him.

Barca is changing their script now that the financials of de Jong’s contract has been released which shows why he doesn’t want to join Man Utd. Barca owes him €73m in wages for the next four years that he deferred because of covid and he intends to make them pay him.

So Barca owe FDJ money and in other words are not going to honour that so they are hoping United cover the wage loss I bet because United pay ridiculous wages, yet they still are chasing contract renewals for likes of Dembele and trying to buy Raphinha, Kounde and Lewandowski. So in other words Barca are needing FDJ to either agree to not be compensated back and stay or join United to fund other moves. You couldn't make this up. Despicable.

They’re an absolute joke of a club.

“Hey, we’re going to need all of our players to drastically cut your wages or even defer some of your salary to a couple of years down the road because we’re in a super dire situation financially. But also here’s Christensen and Kessie (who will surely be in big wages since they’re coming from big clubs) and we also want Raphinha for 60m, Lewa for 50m, Bernardo Silva for who knows how much etc”

Again I ask like I did last week, why would any top talent fancy going to Barca at this moment in time other than the romance of their past glory? One year from now they could pressure you into halving your salary and threatening to sell you if you don’t.

Not a fan of Bayern but they are no mugs. The above is a bit OTT, but I would agree with this mindset. There has to be a huge worry doing a deal with Barca which involves multiple instalments in the future.

The reports with our Raphinha bid at the time was that our bid included a large proportion of the bid up front and you have to wonder if that was a ploy to try and price Barca out of the market, not just in price but also the structure of the deal. You have to believe Leeds would hold similar reservations to Barca as Bayern seem to do.

You reap what you sow in Barca's case. People with poor credit rating struggle to borrow money, so why should that be different in a situation like this. Barca have mismanaged their finances for years and their bleak picture has been laid bare for quite some time. Why would other clubs be willing to sell players to them with large instalments of the deal deferred and spread out.

Well done to Leeds for holding on to their guns also. No wonder they aren't going to budge to Barca's offer. When teams see what has come out with FDJ now, they are going to be very reluctant to do instalment based deals with Barca due to uncertainty about whether they will get their money. Also if I was a player, I would be skeptical about going there after this FDJ saga. Who says a similar situation won't happen with them down the line.. Barca in an ideal world would love to keep FDJ but now makes perfect sense why they need him gone otherwise they can't pursue other deals and need to honour his deferred wages.

Who's this Matheus Nunes lad we are apparently close to buying?

Appears the source for the link is terrible and since no other outlet is corroborating it I think we can dismiss it.

Looks like a fantastic player, though.

Shame. Yeah he looks like an ideal Jorginho rotation option.
