Why would a player like this who is sought after by a bunch of top clubs happily tie selves long term to one of the worst run clubs in the league? 

Feels like one of those situations where now if a massive club comes in for him in a year or two he’ll get mad that Everton’s demand is too high when it’s his own fault for signing a new deal.

The only question is, how much would Everton be able to demand from another club?    At the end of the day, he's a CB and yes there is a homegrown tax, but even then, I wouldn't expect clubs to be bidding more than the Maguire to United transfer fee.

He made a massive difference to the attack with his workrate - to the point we were a toothless team for the months he was out injured. 

Temperament and finishing issues were the letdown but Jackson is a good player and you can see that in many clubs lining up to buy him.
