I still would like another striker.

Jackson needs some good competition.

What a pity about we didn't get Duran. A player many here where against but the boy has improved big time this season.

Either Duran or Samu would have been good additions to the squad to compete with NJ but this thread was filled with endless pages of people raging about either

Samu, yes,

Duran, at the end of the day, no

There were like 3 supporters of Duran. All of us are on this last page.

Just about everyone else was saying oh great, another young project striker.

Samu was an unknown quantity that we were linked with for stupid money (ended up joining Porto for peanuts). Duran, on the other hand, showed signs late last season that he could be an interesting get. However, he still isn't a cert starter for Villa, which raises its own questions.

I believe we were even linked to him during his time in the MLS, so our interest has been there for some time.

I don’t think people realise the managerial issue of continuity and sometimes even if a player might be better you can’t just pop him into a team that’s performing well.

By every metric Villa have been crushing it lately by getting into CL and now having a pretty decent follow up season all things considered.

Take into account Watkins having a historically great striker season for their club. Like all time level great, even if he dips in form, you let a player like that work out of it given your recent successes.

I don’t think Duran not starting is any reflection of him, but more so of keeping the team success at Villa going.

Can you imagine this current team with the Thiago Silva of a couple of years ago next to Colwill? The title challenge would be real.

For me, that’s still something we need to at least consider in January. An experienced, high quality, on-pitch general type CB. Someone with a personality like Thiago Silva, VVD etc who you see barking orders and organizing the entire team from the back. We get that and I think it masks the potential for many of those sketchy Sanchez blunders.

Who’s out there that fits the bill and would they be possible in January, I have no clue.

I think someone like Milan Skriniar from PSG would be an attainable target in January. Hasn’t quite worked at Paris but a top player, experienced… definitely fits the bill. But hes 29, on a really good wage… probably too old and too much money for Clearlake’s policies.

Just try to get murillo and maybe Hincapié and we are good to go in the defense.

I doubt we will be able to make 7-10 first 11 changes every game like with the conference for example because the likelihood is the level will be tougher and there will be matches we will play against bigger teams

With fingers crossed for Champions League qualification, our squad builders' aim should be to improve the 'B team' in such a way that it is strong enough to allow the 'A team' to be rested against a different profile of opponents. Meaning; in selected domestic cup games, CL league stage fixtures against 4th seeded sides, and even certain Premier League matches if and when the fixtures line up in a helpful way.

We already have arrivals set up who, if they live up to billing, will allow some current A teamers to be available for B team matches. That should, in theory, improve the B team. We also should expect further recruitment, either of projected A teamers, or even of players being brought in to directly bolster the B team.

I’ve always liked him but he looks SO slow when it comes to lateral movement. I feel like the pace and aggression of the PL would cause him issues. If we went for him I wouldn’t complain but I’m skeptical.

With Forest flying WAY above anything they could’ve dreamed of this season there’s no chance they’d sell Murillo midseason. And in the summer he’ll probably have an £85m price tag in his head. Think we missed our chance with him when we decided not to push for him last summer.

Exactly. He is not fitting our team at all. He was great at Inter in Inzaghi's 3-CB system, but we need players like Fofana and Levi, who have quick feet and are good at passing.
