United fans are completely deluded. They’re in a way bigger hole than we have been and have so far been too incompetent to sign anyone.

We’re finishing above them again.

We aren't finishing above them if they get De Ligt, Ugarte and Zirkzee.

De Ligt is as slow as Harry Maguire and flopped at Bayern. Ugarte got benched at PSG and isn’t fancied at all by the manager from what I’ve read. Zirkzee is just as big of a gamble as any of the young players we’re signing. He and Hojlund as their two strikers seems like a recipe for disaster for me.

None of the moves they’re trying to make impress me at all.

Yes we are. All the players you hype are expensive then flop.

Veiga was literally brought in as Calafiori's replacement at Basel. Not just that, if you actually go and watch a full game or some extended highlights, possesses a few qualities we actually need.

He can't cross for shit, but the man is Dembele/Toure-esque in terms of holding that ball despite a two man press on him.

Spoke to my Canadian mate - and he doesn't rate Jonathan David. At least not in the national team. Said he hasn't watched him for club but seen just about most of his games for country.

Says he is a passenger in games and found it interesting bigger clubs were linked with him, but also said its telling he is going for cheap and still no one has come knocking.

What was the last top signing under Roman? Hazard? What too signings are Liverpool and arsenal getting that we couldn't if we wanted? Liverpool wanted lavia and caicedo we got both, they got Endo 🫣 arsenal wanted mudryk, we got mudryk... We don't go for huge household names with massive price tags and stupidly high wages anymore, that's a choice not because "we can't"

Constantly spitting facts.

I’ve seen similar sentiment about him with the Canadian national team. He basically does nothing with his country. But then you watch him at Lille and he looks genuinely good. Not great, but good.

So I don’t know what to believe. There’s got to be a reason that in this current era of an extreme striker shortage no big club has ever moved for him. But for £20-30m perhaps he’s worth a punt?

people were losing their minds last summer after we failed to get ugarte. same with de ligt two summers ago. luis enrique did not even want ugarte to be bought because he did not fit his way of playing. de ligt was underwhelming at bayern but it does not mean he will be the same somewhere else. so i would slow down with calling those signings as bad.

They’re not “bad” signings or bad players. They’re just not signings that make me worry about United. Just because they’re big or well known names doesn’t mean they’re top level signings.

This is what United have been doing for years now. Bring in big famous names and then they flop or underwhelm.

Calafiori does look like an interesting player, and apparently he might be taking £65k per week at Arsenal. Last year Eghbali and Boehly would have boarded a private jet to personally persuade everyone involved that he is coming to Chelsea but now we just quietly buy another player that we think is better value without the need to start a bidding war.

Not sure what to think on that but to be fair we have a good record at these kind of signings and I'll wait to see this lad before judging.

Been an underwhelming transfer window so far but the thing is it always will be if we are going to pick up players before they make a big name for themselves, so I guess we should just get used to it.

Most baffling thing to me at the moment is what is going on with the new manager? Why isn't he giving interviews and getting us excited about what he is going to do with our players?

Not a bad thing to do. But strengthen the XI as well.

Signing Renato Veiga after tracking Calafiori for the first team is the issue.

And if we signed Calafiori a couple of years ago or even last year that would have been an "issue" too.

Maybe we're just trying to get ahead of the game this time?

The Maresca thing is definitely weird. He was appointed over a month ago and there hasn’t been so much as a picture or quote from him since. It almost feels as if the club have forgotten that they appointed a new guy who the supporters want to hear from.

Look at Leicester with Maresca’s replacement. He has already been unveiled and spoken. Liverpool have had Arne Slot speaking numerous times already.

I know Maresca only “officially” started on July 1 but even that was a week ago and still nothing. It’s not like I’m dying to hear from him because he’s going to reveal a bunch of super interesting things. I just think it’s strange.

Would be good if you named the players.  Other than KDH, I'm not sure which of our signings were seriously linked to Brighton/Benfica.

There's a reason why City/Arsenal aren't going after these 'project' players and that will once again show at the end of the season when we are barely in the top 6 and they are 20+ points away from us.

A large chunk of Arsenal's current squad arrived at the club as project players or players that would have caused a meltdown here had we got them (same with many Liverpool players that formed their eventual title winning side). City are City, they're playing in a totally different market to any of us so unfair to compare but even they had the likes of Fabian Delph forming their centurions.

As for listing the players. Palmer, Jackson, Paez, Andre Santos, Gusto and Carney are all likely snapped up by the Benficas/Brightons off this world (then sold for a insane cash) had they not been signed by us. Being proactive and getting Enzo and Caicedo out of South America would have saved us the best part of £200m.

Chiesa is supposedly available for €25m as his contract expires next season & he isn't part of Motta's plans. I'd be all over that if we were able to get rid of someone like Sterling.

Basel will receive more money for a player who is no longer theirs than they will for Veiga. No one knows if Veiga will have a similar ascent. One thing is certain: based on his father's recent statement, he does not appear to be lacking in ambition.
