Chelsea’s negotiations with Juventus over a move for Matthijs de Ligt are progressing with talks continuing regarding a return to Stamford Bridge for Nathan Ake.

As Chelsea wait to find out if Raphinha will agree to move from Leeds United in a £55million, plus add-ons, move or hold out for a switch to Barcelona, Chelsea are working hard on their other targets.

Fresh talks have taken place regarding Raheem Sterling ahead of an anticipated bid, while De Ligt and Ake are high on Chelsea’s immediate agenda.

Given the takeover of the club forced Chelsea into a position of having to play catch-up on their rivals, there would be a sense of satisfaction if the club could complete at least three of the four deals they are most actively working on relatively swiftly. It would also allow some breathing space before using the second half of the summer transfer window to then pursue other targets.

De Ligt is understood to be keen on the prospect of moving to Chelsea and Juventus are believed to have softened their demands in recent days, which makes the prospect of a transfer more realistic.

Juventus had wanted the £102million clause in De Ligt’s contract fulfilled, but the will of the player is set to force that valuation down and Chelsea are also prepared to allow Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner to move in the opposite direction.

De Ligt could form part of a new-look central defence with Ake, who Chelsea are likely to have to pay more than £40m to re-sign from Manchester City.

There remains optimism that Chelsea can land Sterling from City in what would be a high-profile move with the hope of him forming a fresh £105m attack with Raphinha.

Chelsea are being patient in their pursuit of Raphinha, despite agreeing a fee with Leeds United and broadly settling on personal terms of £115,000-a-week over the course of a five-year contract with the player and his representatives.

Raphinha’s agent, the former midfielder Deco, has held talks with Barcelona, who announced a £229m investment from the investment firm Sixth Street in exchange for 10 per cent of the club’s La Liga TV rights for the next 25 years.

That could result in Barca launching a hijack bid for Raphinha, although they are yet to match Chelsea’s offer and are expected to prioritise the signing of striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

Raphinha is thought to favour a move to Barcelona, but is also prepared to join Chelsea if the Spaniards do not reach an agreement with Leeds.

I get the impression that Barca would like him but he's not a priority signing.

It feels like they're showing themselves to make a token effort to save face but ultimately know that they're not in a position to do so.

If it encourages Raphinha to reject all advances and hold out for Barca in the hope they can agree something later in the window then power to him.

The bigger risk for him would be for Barca to manage to find an agreement with Leeds to then struggle to register him and leave him completely in limbo which I don't think could be completely dismissed given their current struggles.

Those suggesting Gnabry. Bayern have never sold anyone to Chelsea and Chelsea have never sold anyone to Bayern. There seems to be a hatred that stems from their side since Roman's takeover, and us nicking Ballack off them for free. The 2012 final probably also didn't help. Since then they have nicked two of our youth players, and their public pursuit of Hudson-Odoi was also pretty infuriating. I honestly think they'd rather him leave on a free than sell to us.

No wonder he wants a 1v1 attacker, he’s spent the best part of 18 months of watching Werner miscontrolling/tripping over the ball when trying to dribble by players 😂

So long the reports of Tuchel wanting 1v1 attacking players is valid....move on....sign Gnabry.

Ganarby is my first choice too.
