Getting Skriniar is probably the best we can hope for if any player comes the other way. A CB that’s able to walk straight into the team and perform at a high level. Bastoni is more of a gamble.

Bit sad that any and all talk of Gvardiol totally dried up. Koundé + Gvardiol would be great. I guess Koundé + Skriniar on either side of Thiago would be nice, too.

I think to get one or two players in from the academy to perform squad roles is almost as big a success as a first choice player coming through as it still fills needs and potentially saves the club a lot of money.

RLC and CHO need to cut their wage by half if they want to even contemplate about extending.

I would agree it's going to be extremely difficult for them to get similar deals. They signed up previously based on potential breakout periods and in CHO's case the general worry of losing him but neither has developed and kicked on to justify. I think time is still on Hudson-Odoi's side and there was a period last season where he was playing regularly and looking a lot more effective but he still must produce a lot more.

The problem with dropping their pay is they are very unlikely to do this with still 2 years to run on a current deal. I would be happier with them being signed up to lower base salary but higher performance bonuses to still dangle the carrot to earn what they have been or perhaps even more than they have in the future but it is a tough situation with how the club decides to deal with them.

You have to believe the bit about Boehly discussing with Tuchel whether the relationship is repairable has to be the bit the media got wind of and there were suggestions of Boehly not being on board with Tuchel to let him leave. Of course there will be discussions like this. Boehly isn't a football expert and will currently look at Lukaku as a £100m signing just 12 months ago, he'll want to know what has gone wrong with this transfer and if anything can be fixed before taking what will likely equate to a big hit on the deal. That does not however mean he's going against Tuchel.

To be fair to Leipzig they seem to understand their position in the football pyramid and know that their top players will leave at some point but they help to facilitate that in exchange for a bit more loyalty. I think Nkunku and Gvardiol will both end up being tied to new terms that gives the club another year, maybe two in Gvardiol's case, out of them but also means they'll have release clauses which appear more than reasonable on the open market.

I'm not sure either will move this summer.

Also on Skriniar, he has lots of traits that would suit us and English football well but also has some things that I’d worry about against certain opponents. He is a no-nonsense, no frills, old school central defender who seems to enjoy bullying and getting physical. That will come in handy against smaller teams or teams that try to knock us off our rhythm. But I’d be concerned about his lack of pace and lateral quickness against a City or a Liverpool. Even Arse who have lots of quick, intricate footballers in their attack. He has a strange looking running gate that makes him look as though he’s running through quicksand 🤣

I’d be all for us going after him if we signed up Rice or some other super DM who helps out the CB’s a lot. Could mask some of his deficiencies. But with only Jorginho and a rarely fit Kante I think he’s a risky signing.

This is my main issue with him, especially if both him and Silva starting at the same time.

I think it is a bit unfair to Skriniar. Sure, there has to be a Serie A discount. players there are slower and weaker than in PL on average, so Lukaku and Tammy look lightning there while Alonso looked reasonably quick. Skriniar definitely does not have Rüdigers absurd speed (Ironically, Skriniar is as the quicker one at Fifa which is absolute BS) But I have seen Skriniar outpace Tammy, Osimhen, Moise Kean and Morata in a sprint duells off the ball and at least hold up vs Vinicius, diaz, mane, salah and even Theo on the ball. So I would say he is capable in that regard. Definitely faster than de vrij and bastoni. He also does not need to go into sprint duels that often bc he tackles players early. I particularly like how cleanly he tackles while also putting a lot of force into it to knock the opposition players off their feet quite often. He surely makes this on purpose to give himself more time on the ball. Also I saw him do full splits on a slide tackle so he sure is mobile.

So it's going to be a player swap?

I hope we push for that because a plain loan with no obligation to buy is stupid.

And since some people are against Bastoni, then Skriniar it is.

Let's do it Chelsea.
