So expected to be out for the game against Palace?

His medical is supposed to be today in Belgium. He could be in by the weekend. Super Cup is going to be without him.

25-30 years of watching Chelsea and football in general would say otherwise.

I'd say someone who thinks one season in a lower quality league makes a previous flop a superstar is clueless.

I think he will get goals as he will have so much quality around him.

Modern day heskey for me

There's just so many things wrong about this.

For starters, a player who by the age of 26 already sat #20 on the list of all-time PL goalscorers was not a flop by any definition of the word. He might not have been a superstar success at Man Utd but he still scored 42 goals in two seasons for them, he just wasn't the best fit for how they played football at the time.

And as for his time at Inter, he played there for two seasons (not one) and scored 23-24 league goals in both seasons. I won't go into the argument on whether Serie A is a 'lower level league' or not but Lukaku got POTY in Serie A when he fired Inter to their first title in more than a decade, breaking Juve's decade-long dominance. The same Juve team who have been a good performer in the UCL as well, reaching two finals with mostly the same core group of players.

And is it so hard to imagine that just maybe Lukaku has actually improved as a player in the last couple of years after being coached by a better manager than any of his seasons before (Martinez, Koeman and a Mourinho who's gone through a massive decline)? It's been widely reported that Conte identified some of his weaknesses and had him work drills in training for months on end to improve them, not to mention the improvements on his diet and physical training which have both helped him become a better player. He's obviously still not a superstar technically but things such as positioning and awareness definitely improve with experience and better quality coaching.

Btw, Heskey played in the PL for 18 full seasons and got overall less PL goals than had Lukaku by 26. Heskey's best season was 14 league goals which he reached exactly once in his career, which Lukaku has already bettered in 5 of his 7 full seasons in the league.

would you rather keep the squad place empty tho? I think if we do not sign a 4th cm, I'd honestly rather have Waterboy play vs Bradford or Shrewsbury in leageu cup/fa cup 4th round than having to trot out an overplayed Kovacic/Kante/Jorginho

I would be all for it if we were guaranteed the 15/16 version but after the last few years he's had it's too big a risk even for a squad role.

The only human who can change my mind is the guy himself.

I'm not betting on it

we need to buy Aurélien Tchouaméni

fuck Drinkwater

would rather a reserve team MFer play in those games you mentioned

hell, play Lewis Baker

he actually looked good at MF and then CB in a back 3

Actually the natural option would be Trev Chalobah. He has been used as CB mostly by TT so far but actually he is a holding DM so would complement our other midfielders  nicely. I am afraid we will not buy Tchouame j or any new mf at this point

Apparently arsenal and spurs are fighting it out for Vlahovic. Lukaku is a level above. He will lose his pace but hopefully make up for it as a target man and hopefully learning how to lead the press. We will get 5 years out of him.

I meant about knowing nothing about football or players, the fact u can say lukaku is like Heskey, makes anything you say from now on irrelevant.

Yet half the forum and the majority of my friends who all attend the shedend dont feel the same as you?

Hmmm strange, What happens if he is a calamity, Will you delete your account if youre wrong because then everything you say will be irrelevant, using your mental gymnastics approach

haha

I've already been proven right... he's improved massively, he was already a proven before he left the Premier league, and the drills they had him doing at inter have helped him even more. To say the Italian league is garbage is also nonsense that nation just won the euros and most players are from that league. And why would I take your mates advice who ATTEND the Shedend, lukaku has played for inter for past 2 seasons, not like they are watching him week in week out isn't lmao
