This CarefreeYouth fella is a funny one. On one hand, it does look he knows his stuff because he has some inside info but on the other hand, it always feels like he's reacting to after the fact, pretending like he has inside source when he actually doesn't.

Works both ways. For example, I've never once seen a successful player be pigeonholed as a "board signing" yet almost every player that flops apparently is.

Thats false because I remember well board received much love for signing Kante. Given how many shit signings we made, yes it didnt happen often though.

Look no board is perfect. There will be shit signing or two in every club. But take a look at the last 5 years or so and count how many players we bought actualy played realy valuable role and proved to be reliable long term choice, ie a smart move and how many flops or signings with zero planning what to do with them.

Kepa was a flop. Morata was a flop. Baka flop. Wont even go with Drinkwater. Emerson didnt fill the expectations. Barkley was a weird signing too. Zappacosta pointless. Jorginho didnt reach expectations. Rudiger didnt reach expectations.

Probably forgot a few others.

Kante was great. Alonso for me, given the price was ok buy IMO. And then with Pulisic it started to improve again.

I mean take a look at that era and check how many pointless signings there are. You cant tell if Baka will flop. But thats one player. We had 10 flops at least. Thats not bad luck, thats terrible board decisions.

Still think there may be a twist in the goalkeeper story. Wouldn't be surprised if we hear a completely new name out of nowhere that we were not linked with before. Mendy's apparent lack of ability with the ball at his feet could be a risk the club may not want to take.

But you can't do that can you? It is really unfair to judge in hindsight. It is so easy to look back and say X or Y was a flop or did not live up to expectations. People blaming the board when they were excited at the time of signing is really hypocritical IMO. There is always a risk about every transfer not working for an array of reasons. So everyone is buzzing for Havertz, but if he flops we're gonna say "damn you board, how could you spend 80M on him"?

This summer has been great end of.

I was never very happy about kepa or morata. The former, I didnt know well enough and he didnt prove himself. But okay if the board thinks he is that good. I wouldnt pay this money on him. Secondly, I didnt rate Morata. Neither Lukaku. It was just picking the lesser evil. Again shouldnt pay.

Everyone knew Drinkwater was awful idea. Im certain 90% of this forum could pick a cheaper and better alternative.

Maybe some loved it, I didnt. Admitedly, I rated Bakayoko tbh. But thats one player.

On other hand, I was super excited about Hazard and Kante when they came. It was clear they will fit perfectly and become world class for Chelsea. I honestly dont have that feeling about any of the transfers we made. Ziyech isnt fast for a winger, Werner has yet to prove his quality against parked buses. Kai is fantastic talent indeed, but IMO didnt impress me like Hazard did in Lille. That said they are all likely to succeed here. I had mixed feelings about Pulisic, but he impressed me so far.

As for this summer. Hmm. I would prefer Sancho and cheaper Lb instead of Chilwell and Kai.

We shall see if the board made smart choices.

About the fans being excited on transfers then blaming the board if they fail, it was more a general observation on some fans, and not directly directed at you.

Morata/Lukaku were the only good strikers available, very little wiggle room that summer.. For Drinkwater that's not true. Most of the fans aknowledged he was overpriced, but a proven PL player that could fill the gap and the do the job as a squad player. Nobody could predict his complete and utter downfall. But in essence i do agree with you that this was not a good signing by the board.

So basically the club needs to sign one of the best players in the PL (Kante) or a talent like Hazard to make you really happy? Can i ask you this. Besides Sancho, who could the club have signed to make you happy? You seem to be very hard to please to be honest.

That about Drinks is false. We had Chalobah who could fill that squad role and many pointed that out.

Obviously the player has to be talented or good, otherwise whats the point of buying them? There are always fair priced options we could target.

Players like Davies, Robertson,...are always out there but our scouts never seem to find them or the management doesnt have faith (Salah, Kdb). Then you mix one or two from youth and finaly a few world class players. Some will be more and some less affordable.

I invite you to go read the first  few pages of his thread to refresh your memory. Your own post, i quote:

"Welcome Danny.

I think he is going to be useful additon and depth option to our squad, nevermind being english. However his quality, it says alot Leicester was looking for improvement over him for two years now in Silva. He is decent player, nothing more. I dont expect him to do anything beside basic, but he is reliable and used to PL, so he will hold his ground hopefuly.

Still kudos for choosing us and accepting side role.  But 35m pounds for a player thats neither already great nor has potential, IMO way too much. Yes english and all, but keep in mind City bought Delph for 8m two years ago for basicaly same reasons.

Transfer makes sense, Danny is alright player, but that fee...plain awful. "

So yeah basically what i said earlier, that most fans were OK/happy with the transfer. Some happy about it, some more reserved (like you), but almost nobody was 100% against it. You will also see most people preferred him to Chalobah.

I agree selling KDB was a mistake, but again easier to say now that he is a world beater. When we sold him his potential was obvious for everyone to see, but a £20M fee was good business. Salah was just not good enough when we sold him, it made perfect sense to sell. Fairplay to him though, he put the work in and drastically improved.

You have reservations about Ziyech, Werner and Havertz (fair enough you are entitled to your opinion), but again who would you have fancied the club to purchase?

The Mail saying this week we will push on for Edouard Mendy

Mendy worries me. He looked poor the last game I saw him play, he is 29 in around 5 months (even though that age means nothing short term for GKers, his fees being talked about are high for that age) his distribution is meh, he has very little big game experience (no European experience and only 2 years top flight experience), and he is an African Senegal national team player (now is their starter atm) so we lose him for a month or so when AFCON starts (even though that is not right away, it is 3 of the next 4 years after this season). He is very tall (1.98m), on the plus side.

Doesn't look like there's any scenario in which Kepa isn't our starting keeper for at least the first match or two. Doesn't Mendy currently have COVID? So if he is the one we buy you have that to deal with for who knows how long.

Feels like a new keeper should probably not have been left so late.

Worrying that the dregs are still here, hope we offload least Emerson, Barkley and Drinkwater before the transfer period ends.

22 for sure and possibly 26 need to go over the next 4 (2 X summer/winter) windows. Don't forget Bats, Zappacosta, Baba and Jorginho btw, if we are talking about big money spends who need to be flushed ASAP. Kepa is going to be a nightmare too, unless a miracle takes place.
