the wes 7,212
Chelsea have stated it would be ‘an honour’ to provide the setting for a possible world heavyweight title bout between London’s own David Haye and one of the Klitschko brothers next summer. Haye demolished Monte Barrett in front of the Setanta Sports cameras at the O2 Arena on Saturday night to announce his arrival as a heavyweight title contender and immediately set his sights on a showdown with either WBC champion Vitali or IBF, IBO and WBO champion Wladimir. After a thrilling display in East London, his proposed title fight could take place on the other side of the capital with the Klitschko camp reportedly keen on Stamford Bridge as a venue having visited the ground for Chelsea’s win over Manchester United last season. And with Haye currently one of British boxing’s leading lights, Chelsea would be only too pleased to host the man who unified the cruiserweight division when beating Enzo Maccarinelli inside two rounds in March. “Chelsea has not been approached regarding the hosting of a Haye v Klitschko world heavyweight title fight but we would be happy to hold preliminary discussions about the possibility,” read a club statement. “Stamford Bridge is one of the premier venues in London for both sporting and non-sporting events. It would be an honour to stage a global event such as this. “The ability to host the fight here in the summer of 2009 would be subject to a number of conditions, primarily the protection of the playing surface and approvals with various local agencies and authorities.”
terry26 6
i think that Monte Barrett shouldn't have turned up for that fight the minute you try to jump over the ropes and trip on them, you should know it's not going to be your night LOL
blue_army 2
I can not see this happening as one of the clauses for the local council and residents allowing the west stand to be finally completed was that no other events apart from Chelsea matches could take place. Hence why england never played here but went to 3 point lane and upton park
