chippy 342
Let's be honest. Does anyone think Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and other clubs would have sent back tickets from an already small allocation? This is a massive embarrasent for the club and fans from those other clubs can now rightly say we're not a proper big club, just one that's proped up by a rich owner. This is one very big reason why we should neve even think about trying to move into a 60, 000 seater stadium.

This is one very big reason why we should neve even think about trying to move into a 60, 000 seater stadium. you honestly think we are a small club? you do realise there is a pandemic going on? many EU countries still will not even let tourists in and LOL, have you looked at our net profit even during COVID? We are one of the very few to turn one, and that is after spending shedloads you are sadly mistaken if you do not think we can fill up a brand new, best in world (or top 3 at least) stadium during normal times it was not the fans fault: Chelsea return 800 unsold Champions League final tickets to Uefa It follows criticism from supporters' groups about prices with the most expensive tickets costing £515 https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/05/26/Chelsea-return-800-unsold-champions-league-final-tickets-uefa/ Supporters of Manchester City also expressed outrage although Telegraph Sport understands their allocation of 6,000 has now sold out. Chelsea, however, returned just under a sixth of their allocation, mostly charter packages, which included subsidised flights to Porto. Supporters said the return of tickets showed "Uefa's lack of care for fans has again come to the fore". A total of 5,800 tickets had been taken up by the London club for Saturday's game. There had been high demand for 2,800 tickets which were sold with independent travel. A Uefa spokesman confirmed the highest price for a seat was £515, although tickets start at £60.50. However, Chelsea Supporter Trust board member Dan Silver said prices were "outrageous when there were obvious solutions closer to home." The financial blow for City had been softened last week after club owner Sheikh Mansour announced he would fund the travel costs of supporters travelling to their first-ever European Cup final. The Estadio do Dragao had been confirmed at the 11th hour after the final was moved from Istanbul due to UK travel restrictions. However, Kevin Parker, general secretary of Manchester City's Official Supporters Club, was angered ticket prices were not reduced by Uefa too after plans to move the game to Wembley were torpedoed. "It could have gone to Wembley, but they didn't go because they've got the VIPs who they wanted to go," he told Telegraph Sport. "They kept us waiting and waiting." Silver, meanwhile, told BBC Sport: "They (Uefa) came to be our friends over the European Super League but now they have turned their backs on us again. Uefa's insistence on having charter flights - initially linked to 90 per cent of tickets, which the clubs pushed back on - spending only 24 hours in Portugal with added Covid testing and additional costs have made it very prohibitive." now as to our 'small size' https://www.goal.com/en-ph/news/which-football-teams-have-most-fans/1qmg4j3457wvh1kxkb7qbdo7qn England rankings on a number of factors Top 10 Highest Selling Football Clubs Jerseys Globally https://www.sportingfree.com/football/highest-selling-football-clubs-jerseys/ https://blog.playo.co/5-football-clubs-that-sell-the-highest-number-of-their-club-merchandise/ even after a shit year (2015-16) we sold just over 3.1 million shirts, so it isn't like it was all glory hunters bigbluewillie, Nero, Strike and 3 others

People aren't made of money and probably can't afford to spend 600 or so quid on a day trip. The tickets that aren't part of UEFA package were sold. The tickets that didnt involve 200 quid flights did sell! If was at Wembley it would have sold... Vesper

The common fan would not be able to pay that + I cant imagine many wanting to go out of UK to Portugal for just the final and come back immediately. UEFA should have found a solution in the UK itself but 🤷♂️ Vesper

chippy 342
Some fans saying the club said the tickets were sold out. I do not believe for one second the staff dealing with the tickets would say they'd sold out with 800 of them sitting in their office. Not possible to be that stupid. Then the cost excuse. Again, one way or another all those other clubs would have sold out their allocations. Furthermore, the average Chelsea fan in West London has more money to burn than the average Liverpool fan living in their City. Yes, we have a good following abroad but they're not the match day fans. In terms of fan support in England 'we're a medium size club and probably 4th in numbers London. Like it or not, the damage has been done. We're being ridiculed and have excuses that just won't wash. .

The people in the ticket office dealing with these queries will not have the power to make those decisions. If the club has allocated a certain number to charter packages then the people at the ticket office won't be in a position of power to resell these as something different unless someone higher up in the club gives the go ahead. I'm not even sure what power Chelsea have over this matter. I'm sure I read somewhere that UEFA originally wanted all the tickets to be as a charter package but City and Chelsea argued to spread the allocations. I'm not totally against this stance. If the game went ahead at Wembley without covid incident the government would get no credit. If it went wrong, and there was an outbreak, they would be blasted. Whether it went well or went badly they would be accused of double standards. I despise Boris Johnson and his crew but I don't think we could reasonably expect them to make any other decision on this issue.
