The Tuchel Thread

Losing the CL, shouldn't be the one to judge TT, but it should add to the way he fluffed his lines on the most critical games of our season.

Today was critical. Fluffed. Last weekend (even though I'm aware that I said I don't care about the cup, but still a trophy regardless). Fluffed.

A game against Arsenal, our London rivals AND would have put us in a prime position for top 4 without sweating the final day. Fluffed.

How about we see what happens next Saturday before we say Tuchel fluffs another critical game? No one seems to be giving us any chance of beating City anyway. Not even you!

What did Tuchel fluff today exactly? He put out the XI that most of us expected/wanted and it's not his fault that we kept fucking up chances and then gave away two stupid goals at the back.

People keep on complaining about the changes made against Arsenal but apart from Kepa and Alonso, the rest were justified. Rudiger, Kante and Werner were all at risk of injuries. The XI we put out there should still have been good enough to beat Arsenal (ARSENAL!) and let's not forget Havertz missed a sitter when the game was still 0-0 (is that Tuchel's fault?).

When the pressure's on, we feck up (if we lose CL as well). When the pressure's off, we win games (just like Arsenal yay!)

Another way you could put it is we seem to do better when we are not the favorites, for better or for worse.

Think we should forget about improving in defense and midfield and get new attacking players, we create enough chances as it is but we need to finish them, the defense and midfield can hold it together another season but the attack is dreadful and costed us a lot of times this season.

Since each Lampard and Tuchel managed 19 league games this season, here's a comparison...

Lampard - W8 D5 L6 F33 A23 = 29 points
Tuchel - W11 D5 L3 F25 A13 = 38 points

We have the best defensive record in the league since Tuchel got appointed, conceding 4 goals less than the next team...Brighton!

We haven't done very well when we concede first in games under Tuchel...

D 1-1 Southampton
L 2-5 West Brom
L 0-1 Porto
W 2-1 Man City
L 0-1 Arsenal
L 0-1 Leicester

Can excuse the West Brom and Porto games because we went down to 10 men in one and we conceded like in the 93rd minute or something in the other. But the rest (apart from Man City)...

Villa now thrown into the mix as well...

Can you blame me though about us not giving us a chance? Before today, I was very hopeful about beating City but today showed me yet another game that when the pressure's on, this team bottles it. There's going to be pressure again next week.

Why we should judge our chances in that final based on today? We beat Wolves on the final day last season and then and went flopped against Arsenal in the cup final. Go figure.

Today's loss wasn't all TT's fault, in fact Jorginho and the attackers have a huge lionshare of it, but again TT's decision on playing Jorginho. Are you telling me we have no other player in Chelsea that can do a better job than Jorginho? Really? I did not WANT Jorginho starting. He is more of a liability.

Since Kante was injured, the only other alternative is Gilmour, who despite his talent has only been OK-ish in recent outings.

He should have NEVER started Kepa. That's the change that I am fuming about. Mendy was fit to play. 0-0 is better than 0-1 loss. (I'm aware Jorginho had the worst part to play on this as well)

It's not ALL TT's fault again, but when you try to do a Kepa redemption in our final run in, it tells me you are not taking this seriously.

Agree but Kepa wasn't even the one at fault against Arsenal. It also wasn't his fault that Havertz squared 1 v 1 at 0-0 or that the others couldn't react for the remainder part of the game. Wasn't it only Arsenal after all!?

In the last 20 League games (which includes Lampard's final defeat to Leicester), Chelsea are second behind City. (too lazy to check just Tuchel's reign) Obviously you cannot win them all and shock results happen. I don't think TT could have achieved more in the League, considering the position he took us in. He surely takes some blame for some results but he surely takes the credit for the other.

It's SOO funny that 3rd place has been snatched away from us AGAIN on the final day. I'm telling you, zero improvements from last season so far. Only a CL win would change that.

How many times do you want to say that...?

Some of your are overreacting man, like you were expecting us to move mountains ffs just beacuse TT came in. This is a young team in a very fucked up season, in comes TT, have us 2nd behind city in points collected, best defence, most chances created or close to it, have everyone fighting the same battle, harmony in the squad, have the stinking FA on his back since day 1, got us to 2 finals etc........like for real have some patience man.

Obviously nobody wanted to be finishing only fourth this season but in January that didn't even look possible with Frank so lets not hide behind the truth.

Getting fourth whilst stated at the beginning of the season originally would be an underachievement, we got there and got to 2 finals so to say its not an improvement on last season would be lying also.

We have improved considerably under Tuchel. This was always going to be tough to gauge an actual achievement this season because of the unrealistically low expectations with Frank in all fairness, 4th last season was seen as a major achievement despite finishing 3rd the season before with 80-85% of the same squad. Not to mention being like 12 points clear of United IIRC last season by December time and they end up leapfrogging us.

But getting this group to two major finals on top of getting to 4th either way, considering the dysfunctional team with no real structure when under Frank, its a clear sign of progress. Yes its not enough for some people and ultimately I still think the players have a lot of blame for not winning the FA cup, plus today and the Arsenal games also showing the fact this squad/team still needs more and can do much more also.

The summer be interesting but the majority of what I have seen with Tuche so far, there is clear signs there and an opportunity with some additions that we can likely be the closest challenges to City next season (my personal opinion if we stick with 343 and add say 3 top top players we will be very close).

Some people need to let things settle down. It was a spluttered end to the season but I don't think it should be forgotten where Chelsea were when Tuchel came in. If we had been offered this "back door" entrance into the top 4 back then we'd all have taken it and been delighted with it.

Tuchel has taken 9 more points than Lampard did in the first half of the season and has easily had a much harder set of games to do that in where we've got some superb results (Liverpool away, City away, West Ham away, Spurs away).

He's taken a group which are goal shy and done what was needed to be done to get us to our targets, making us extremely well organised and drilled, but without just playing a defensive brand of football.

I personally am looking forward to Tuchel having a summer now to assess the squad and the holes that need filling, alongside a pre season and the early stages of the season when games aren't as thick and fast giving him more time to work on the training ground with the team. For all we know he may have an idea of playing a back 4 next season and being a bit more open to try and be more dangerous in front of goal, but his experience and tactical nous is definitely the main reason why we're in the top 4 again this season.

He's hardly going to get a 5 year extension, I think the club will give him another 12 months extension on his contract and keep things relatively short term but also add a bit more security to Tuchel, and to be honest he's earned it.
