Just half true. Giroud can hold up the ball better than Tammy and win time. He is no use in pressing tho

Think the point is that the opposition defence can push up against us if Giroud is playing upfront because they know he doesn't have the pace to run past them for a ball over the top etc.

Yeah but the other attackers can. Usually one of the wingers makes the deep run after the long ball anyway

Happy for the sixth win in a row and the unbeaten run, we've actually not lost a game since September. On to the Spurs match now, to be fair this match against Rennes, I did not care that much about it, I'm buzzing for the one on Sunday

don't blame werner,,it's lampard fault. this prove,,even the clinical finisher which already tired everything looks amateur....
Mate... Come on. Its lampards fault he misses some sitters. He's so tired he can do beasty runs but then he hits it wide because he's tired.

I'm not worried about timo or gonna be getting on his back about missing chances. So far that hasn't cost us and he will work on it. But that is a laughable hot take.

pretty bad performance tbh lol.. didn't have a single chance from 30' - 87'. I'll leave it given our players are tired.

Even when we had a good chance from open play / good passing, CHO literally stopped the ball and passed backwards for a cross :cig: - can't make this stuff up

Think the players were tired. Most only returned last Thursday, then had to travel to Newcastle for the early Saturday kick off and had only two days after that to rest, recover and travel to France for this game. At least the players now have 4 days between this and Sunday.
On the plus side though, the team least didn't collapse despite looking gassed after 30 minutes. Restricted Rennes to only half chances at best. Might have lost this game last season. And it's also nice to have a goalkeeper in goal for a change!

Yeah, it seemed to play a notable part. Good that we have some more time off ahead of the Spurs clash.

Being able to switch players and not have a significant drop off is a great that, which aids us on nights like this.

About players not mentioned...

Chilwell had his worst game so far for us. Azpi clearly lost his place rightly so. James is better. Kova is so undefined player, all players from the bench were good and all should start against Spurs.

And no love for CHO? 3 goals this season already and had just 3 starts in CL and PL.

CHO was by far our best attacker in the first half. Put in on a plate for werner. IMO he did enough to be in contetnion for a start vs tottenham. both his goals in CL have been openers so really important goals too.

Really indifferent perofrmance overall. Could have put hte game to bed early on but made it unnecessarily hard for ourselvesby not taking our chances like usually. We reallyneed to put them away vs the spuds. Glad Reece, Ziyech, kante got some rest. A bit more rotation would not have hurt i guess.

looks like a little weakness from chillwel is he can't beat the opponent in 1 on 1 situation,,rarely even trying run to surpass the opponent. hope he can improve on those aspect. and for CHO is really improve his finishing this season, but still i didn't see his dribbling and pace which's the main strength for him before injury hit...

and we desperately need a deep CL run!

A run to the quarter-finals, with a draw at Sevilla and win against Krasnodar, would be worth €78.6m with more to come from our share of the market pool. That's a lot of money for sure and with so much matchday income lost, and more still to be lost, it would be a real shot in the arm for CFC finances.

That's before we even consider the boost such a CL season would give to our ability to attract players in the 2021 summer transfer market.
