Obituary: Steve Powell

From the official FSA.Org website:

It was with sadness this weekend that we learnt of the death of Steve Powell – longtime supporter activist and friend of the FSA. Born in 1956, Arsenal fan Steve was a former staff member for the Football Supporters’ Federation (one of our predecessor organisations) and founder-member of Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Association (AISA).

Here FSA chair Malcolm Clarke pays tribute to Steve and his decades of work on behalf of football supporters…

Steve worked for the FSF, as was, as development Officer and he was also on the board of Supporters Direct and its vice chair for a number of years, – while also being heavily involved with the Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Organisation, Arsenal Supporters Trust and other football organisations.

He was also a keen supporter of Wales. He had friends and contacts all over the world, particularly in South America, and loved watching football in different countries and cultures.

He was very knowledgeable about football world-wide and also other sports as well. To take just one small example I remember him educating us about what we could learn from the regulation of Australian Rugby league.

He was of course a regular attendee at our annual conferences and used to make the self-deprecating comment that no conference was complete “until the fat gooner has ranted”.

He was a very effective orator, and an experienced negotiator, having been a full-time trade union official in his younger days.

I particularly remember his great contribution to the “Accord” between the Wimbledon supporters and Milton Keynes Dons FC, which resulted in the return of all the historical records of Wimbledon FC to Merton, including the replica FA Cup, in return for lifting of boycotts.

Steve and I spent a day shuttling between the parties, when his skills as both a drafter of documents of agreements and a mediator were used to great effect.

WATCH: Chelsea Legends dominate against Bayern, win 4-0

Stamford Bridge turns back the clock

Nostalgia is a powerful drug, and there was plenty of it on offer Saturday night, as perhaps the greatest collection of modern Chelsea Legends in a team — despite a few conspicuous absentees — ran rampant against a group of Bayern Munich legends, winning 4-0 in a 60-minute match held in tribute to Gianluca Vialli and in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Chelsea Foundation.

The goals by Michael Essien (assisted by Ramires), John Terry (assisted by Florent Malouda), Gary Cahill, and Tiago Mendes were all worth the price of admission, as was the chance to see Gianfranco Zola playing in our lovely home kit from this season, and playing a key role in setting up our two second half goals as well.

“I have so many great memories from this stadium so to get back out there in front of the fans and surrounded by the players we saw today was an honour.

“It was a fantastic night, I think it went it went absolutely brilliantly. It was a celebration from start to finish. It was an excellent night.”

If we really want our club back. The only type of ways for this.

we need new millionaires owners to setup a new Chelsea team at Stamford bridge and todd boehly and egbhali move to new location and change the team club name to that region.

Chelsea start from scratch at the bottom and by the time we get back to premier league the financial crash would wipe out all these clubs because the market crash is about to happen again that's why Todd boehly spending like crazy. Sports was created by billionaires who are owned puppets by the unseen elites who use sport as a distraction and then take our freedom away while using sport as an escapeism.

This is what it hinged on.

We were playing with a handbrake on with no shirt sponsor. Now we have been unlocked.
