Ballack Plays For Reserves Tonight

Recommended Posts

Michael Ballack will make a welcome return to playing action tonight when he starts for Chelsea's reserve side in a game at Brentford FC's Griffin Park. The match, which can be seen live for free on Chelsea TV, will be the German international captain's first competitive football for seven months. He left the field due to injury during the first team game at St. James' Park last April and has since undergone two operations on his ankle. Birmingham City are tonight's visitors in what is the first home game for the reserves in seven weeks. Ballack will provide experience in what is otherwise a very youthful Chelsea line-up.0,,10268~3347537,00.jpg Frank Nouble, a schoolboy who has started three games and made four substitute appearances for the youth team this season, scoring twice, will lead the attack and there is also a place in midfield for Gaël Kakuta, a France Under 17 international who will be making his first start at this level. Goalkeeper Rhys Taylor, defender Patrick van Aanholt, midfielder Lee Sawyer and winger Miroslav Stoch have all been away with their countries at junior international level in recent weeks. Stoch scored four goals in three matches for Slovakia Under 19s.Tonight's visitors, who are enjoying a good reserve season and are currently third in the Barclays Premier Reserve League South, name a side containing plenty of first team experience. Club captain Damien Johnson is coming back from injury and plays. There are also starts for Colin Doyle, Olivier Tebily, Seb Larsson, Radhi Jaidi and former Middlesbrough pair Franck Queudrue and Stuart Parnaby. In charge of Birmingham tonight in the wake of the managerial shake-up at St. Andrews is goalkeeping coach and former Aston Villa keeper Nigel Spink. Chelsea's reserve team manager Brendan Rodgers will be keen to see his players respond to the challenge with a good display, the second string having lost the last four games. The full Chelsea team is:Rhys Taylor, Shaun Cummings, Adrian Pettigrew, Harry Worley, Patrick van Aanholt, Liam Bridcutt (capt), Gael Kakuta, Michael Ballack, Lee Sawyer, Frank Nouble, Miroslav Stoch. Subs: Stuart Searle, Carl Magnay, Jeffrey Bruma, Jacob Mellis, James Simmonds. Birmingham:Colin Doyle, Olivier Tebily, Mat Sadler, Sebastian Larsson, Radhi Jaidi, Franck Queudrue, Stuart Parnaby, Damien Johnson, Jamie Sheldon, Robert Gradwell, Jordon Mutch.Subs: Artur Krysiak, Stefan Milojevic, Asa Hall, David Howland, Jake Jervis. Kick-off is 7pm and admission is £5 for adults, £3 for oaps/juvs, free to season ticket holders. Anyone with a Sky subscription will be able to watch Chelsea TV's coverage as part of this week's freeview offering. The game will be shown as part of Monday Night Live, beginning at 6.30pm. The programme will start with all Chelsea's latest news in Blues News. For the match, Scott Minto will provide expert analysis and Clive Walker co-commentates. After the final whistle, Minto will be taking phone calls and emails from supporters on any Chelsea-related matters including look backing at Derby and forward to Rosenborg. Great to see Ballack back in action and will be good to see him play for the reserves. The young lads in the team will certainly appreciate it as well. Can't quite work out what formation is going to be played though, not sure if it is going to 4-3-3 with either Kakuta or Sawyer on the wing or a 4-4-2, but again not sure who is on the wing.Good to see another debut tonight with Nouble starting, will be good to see how he does.

Sidwell perhaps ?
Most likely, but then it's hard to tell because we don't know who else is coming and who is going in January. This is great news, we're going to need him during the African Nations and hopefully he can assert himself as a world class midfielder again for us.

It is a big step on his road back to the first team. Hopefully he will be able to complete a full 90 mins which will be great news. Having him in the team will also be a huge boost to the rest of the reserve team.

Hope you have fun, mate  Ballack is one of my favourite players, and I am looking forward to his return. It means we have cover for Lampard should he be injured or rested, and can add a different complexion to the midfield during the ACoN to add a more attack minded midfielder to the fray.

What i wanna know, how do ya paste that from the Chelsea site, to here.... when i try and copy and paste from it... it dont work lmao!
You have to go into the site via the flash set up, but you can only copy whats on the screen at the time, you have to scroll down each part before getting the whole story.Hope that helps thumbsup.gif BOT....If he gets back to the form he was showing toward the end of last season before his injury then I'll be happy. He only seemed to be getting to grips with the pace of the game over here before he had to take some unintended time off. It'll be interesting to see if he can make the impact that many of us want to see from him. Theres no doubt he's a very talented player, I just hope he isnt another flop who will be added to our list of duds.
