Assists are subjective, Mount has been robbed of many assists this past season

Unless they do it a ridicolous rate like KDB or Fabregas then the quality of assists need looking deeper into.

Any instances? Can't remember many off my head.

It would be nice to know the breakdown of chances created or rather key passes from open play and set pieces by Mount.

Examples from the Euros would be Sterling's hesitation and Kane's sitter vs Croatia.

Didn’t Squawka report only Bruno Fernandes created more chances than Mount last season?

Pretty sure chances created from set pieces were included. Am curious to know what's Mount numbers when it comes to creating from open play.

What makes this more impressive is the other four have their entire teams systems built around getting the (creative) best out of them.

Did you not argue once before about the loose definition or subjective-ness (can't think of the right word/phrase) of chances created?

I actually said it should be used as a more accurate way to judge creativity than the assist stat. You can make the best through pass of all time but are still relying on the player at the other end to do his job for it to go on the assist chart but on the flip side whoever passed to Maradona before that goal against England or Henry before that goal against Spurs got an "assist".

Problem with 'chances created' is the same with your problem about 'assist' because it includes the latter, according to Opta definition. Like the example you gave, Player A can simply make a 5-yard pass to Player B, who then shoots at goal from 30 yards and that will be counted as a chance created.

If we want to judge creativity, then I'd prefer to have at least the chances created broken down to chances created from open play and set pieces because creating from open play requires more than creating from set pieces. In Mount's case, not to devalue his number but it's no surprise that his chances created were high because he also took a lot of our set pieces. The others in that Top 5 also took set pieces for their team, which is why the 'chances created' stat can be misleading (that's the word!) to judge creativity.

Awful tournament. Thought he’d step up a level after winning the Champions League.

Is it? 5 games - 0 goals - 1 set piece assist for 4th goal against Ukraine. This is pretty much perfect measure of MM. This is how his average 5 games at Chelsea look like.

Tbf he probably did better than Foden did at least… next Gazza my arse. Did nothing.

Mount was quiet all tournament but again, other than Sterling, not as if Englands attackers were exactly great or consistent.

Kane had 2 games where he was good.

Saka one game.

Grealish one real impact off the bench despite the constant ranting and raving about him.

Sancho, the 80m benchwarmer.

And its not that England were the most expansive or progressive team or that their 2 holding midfielders didn’t play sideways as opposed to through the lines into the front players as often as Italy, Spain, Belgium etc either so no surprise none of them really did well bar Sterling who’s goals again probably got him more plaudits.

But again no surprise the same folk taking digs. Excited to see him kick on again with a proper manager in Tuchel. Think hes going to have a better return this season again.

Mason mount is a team fixer.

he makes the team more competitive, which in turn makes it more likely to win silverware.

some folks don’t like that and prefer flashier players, but consider that if it’s not mason it’d have to be another player like him elsewhere. I reckon he’s one of the best at what he does.

we don’t have Messi, Neymar, mbappe… we are not a powerhouse. If we play as equals with them, will lose more often than not. We can level the playing field with intensity, tactics, and smarts -and Mason mount helps with all that.
