Would expect Tuchel to use Mount more intelligently, not just in terms of not overplaying him but also utilize properly tactically.

I just hope it doesn't jeopardise Havertz starting position. I can see Mount being deployed in an attacking No10 role like we have seen him playing in Tuchels Chelsea thus far. Somehow we need to make Havertz and Mount work in the same lineup without hindering their talents.

Think Tuchel might try Werner-Havertz-Mount as the front 3 at some point, especially as he doesn't seem to like giving the opposition a focal point to deal with.

On a random note, we're just stupidly overloaded with attacking options right now. It's good to have options but there just seems to be too many to keep happy.

As long as Mount is fit and continues to play regularly for Chelsea, Southgate will take him to the Euro's 100%. He already likes him and trusts him as he's been around the set up for the last 18 months. The other thing Mount has compared to those players is he can be trusted to be more disciplined and play deeper alongside say a Henderson or Rice. That gives England an additional option if they're chasing a game or trying to break a team down to replace a defensive minded midfielder with a more offensive minded one, but one that the manager can trust to put a defensive shift in also.

I think if Southgate wants to try and include more offensive minded midfielders/wingers in his squad it is more likely to come at the cost of a striker, when they have somebody like Rashford who could play the central striking role if required.

As a side note cannot deny the natural talent the likes of Foden and Maddison have, but Southgate isn't going to take too many players with him who haven't spent good amounts of time in squads and playing games for England. Time is running out to stamp a mark before the summer.

I too hope that Havertz does well, but making a system work for one or 2 players should NEVER be the objective.

We need to have a set playing style that works, and if some players work better than others, then so be it. Case in point, CHO starting over Pulisic (although the CP has enough talent to reclaim the spot), and Alonso over Chillwell.

I think part of the reason why Lampard did worse in December and afterwards is because he suddenly had too many talented players fit and available, that he tried to tinker with his lineup every game trying to get most of the big names into the starting 11.

Because that makes complete sense. Austin should get off FIFA

Question was not about starting 11 but full 23 players squad. Because more than likely one player will not go to EURO from this group.

It is not hard to guess that Southgate will take Mount because he usually starts for him and Maddison has not been in the squad so I think he will not go even tho he should.

You have 3 GKs, 6 front players (Rashford, Kane, DCL, Sancho, Sterling and Grealish), 8 or probably even 9 defenders because England play with 3 CBs and 2 wing backs.

This leaves 5 MF places. Rice and Henderson are certain for deeper role. So for 3 places you have Mount, Foden, Maddison, Winks, Phillips, Ward Prowse...

Going with just 2 DMs or CMs who are more known for their defensive work is not serious option so this is why one of Phillips, Winks or Ward Prowse will go and is always in the squad.

And now you have Foden, Mount and Maddison for 2 places. This is why all this discussion. Mount for England just like now for Tuchel plays as one of the 3 most offensive players on the pitch. And this is why some people like Austin here say what they say because they look at the numbers:

Goals in all competitions:

Foden: 10

Maddison: 9

Grealish: 7

Mount: 4

Shots (Premier League)

Maddison: 47

Grealish: 46

Mount: 43

Foden: 28

Assists in all competitions:

Grealish: 10

Maddison: 7

Mount: 5

Foden: 5

Also they all played 400-500 minutes less than Mount and Masons 4 goals have been against 4th division team and against 3 teams that will play Championship next season. 5 assists - 3 from corners and one against Championship side. They probably think this is not enough for one of the 3 most offensive players on the pitch.

But the only problem here is Southgate because he plays wrong system for this amazing group of attacking players.

They all should go imo. And with 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 there would be place for all of them.

But with 3-4-3 you have 5 defenders and lets say Rice and Henderson in double pivot. So only 3 places on the pitch for Kane, Sterling, Sancho, Rashford, Grealish, Foden, Maddison...  Southgate is clueless...

Well to be honest considering they could play as a 3 behind a CF. It does....

Obviously missing Sancho and Sterling but aye its tough for Southgate to pick a squad never mind an 11 if these guys Mason included take their form into tje Euros. Dont disagree with what Austin has said to be honest although, those players are all at a high level. If someone was to miss out, I would say it might be Mason unfortunately although he doesn’t play the wide positions so I think he will be fine and make the squad

I still remember watching Maddison at Aberdeen, there was no doubt for me that he would become a top top player but only with the right coach. Brendan Rodgers is that guy who has taken his game to a huge level.

Grealish has been instrumental for Villa for 2 seasons now in the PL.

Foden is probably the best young English player right now based on his performances.

cc @NikkiCFC 👀

When you play for a team that has 70% possession and is one of the best in the league and you are AM you have to be there 😁 I mean Havertz is there too and he played just a couple of games as number 8.

Barkley right there on top as well because he plays as AM in 4231. How many attacking midfielders are there in the league? 5? 6?

And also I saw Mount had 5 key passes against Newcastle. Does anyone remember just one? Really curious how they measure that?

Are stats everything to you? 😄
