Who exactly do you suggest?

We tried to do a swap deal with Manure for Martial (and use him as the number 9 he actually is going back to Monaco days) and failed.

We had a 2 week window to pay only £98m for icardi, from July 1 to July 15th, and failed.

Lewandowski is 30yo in 24 hours, and would have been close to £100m, plus, like Higuain (31 in a couple months) we do NOT give multiyear contracts to 30 somethings.

RB Leipzig was talking £100m plus for the unproven (IMHO) Timo Werner and ALSO saying not for sale even then.

Andrea Belotti had a really regressive, bad year last year and Torino refused all offers to all clubs anyway, plus he doesn't want to leave atm.

Ciro Immobile will be 30 in middle of next season, and Lazio dont  want to sell, unless they get close to SMS money (say 125 to 130m euros) which is madness

Thats it

There are no more top quality strikers who are even remotely available under 30

Balotelli on a free? Thats about all we could do with a shut window anyway,

Icardi and then Martial converted to striker were basically IT, and we fucked them both usp

It isnt going to change next window, unless you think Roman will drop the £300m it will take to pull Mbappe from PSG. Over the last 14 yeas, he has spent less than £490m net TOTAL An average of £5m per year. The ONLY years heever spent big were his first 2. Thats it.

In 2 of the last 14 years we actually turned a profit on transfers, meaning we sold more than we brought in, in this case both incoming and sales were shit.

Several other years we spent like £2m, £7m net total This year will be one of the higher ones ever, and after more are sold of loaned out, it will be in £60m or so total

We either grab Icardi next summer, or Martial, or hope that Werner and/Belotti come good in a huge way and the board tosses the crazy money to one or the other that will be their price-tag after ascendant seasons.

Nothing else is going to work atm.

I could live with a £125m offer for Dybala, Juve will tell us to fuck off, OR string us along all window as they do EVERY WINDOW NOW. I dont see us dropping that kind of quid anyway.

We DO have another option (IF Morata doesnt finally play well from now on)

CHO as a nine

I can see it working, he is bigger and faster than Mertens

Sarri wanted Higuain. So he would be a good choice. Lewa also would be great.

About the age, Diego Milito joined Inter when he was 30. And we all know what he did for them.

Fucking hell this thread has become pathetic.

The conditions couldn't have been worse for a debut performance. But he gave Chelsea fans something to be positive about. Well done, son.

This thread is beyond pathetic. People are actually calling him Torres #2 for 20 minutes of play where he was completely isolated upfront and a penalty he missed. What would you expect Morata to do in

He didn't join a new league at that age, so it's a different story.

Yes, but the board is not going to pay that type of money for players over 30.

We did try to buy Higuain, he said no. He didnt want to leave Italy, plus we would not give him a long term contract. Bayern simply said NO to all teams in regards to Lewandowski. They refuse to sell him now. They think they will win the treble this year (they do every year, lol)

So, again, what do you suggest we do? I am resigned to the fact that Morata is our striker.

We had legit shots to fix this (no, not Higuain or Lewandowski, which died on the vine from the other end, not ours per se)

We could have met Icardi's £98m release clause. The board stupidly refused. The other legit (if unorthodox) plan was to either sell Willian to Barca for £65m and then pay cash for Martial, or to do the swap deal for him. The board fucked that up too.

4 players, 4 options, 2 the board, our board, fucked up, and 2 the other side refused to play ball.

Higuain deal is now perma-wrecked, he will never play here. Icardi CAN, but now, in July 2019, his release clause for 2 weeks is even higher than it was in 2018. We should still move for him. The board will not, I simply do not see it happening.

To have ANY hope to get him or Werner, we have to be able to offer CL. They will not come if we cannot offer that, UNLESS both Inter and RB Leipzig have bad years as well. Leipzig may, but we do not even know if Werner is the real deal.

Willian also will, next summer, be worth at least £15m less than thsi year. He will be 31 at season start in 2019. Zero chance we get more than £50m for him at that point.

Also, the board, inanely, is talking about giving him an extension!!! OF ALL the fucking players to finally break the 30-something rule over, it is WILLIAN???!!!

Morata MUST come good in a huge way.

The only legit options if he doesnt are the same as thsi summer. Minus Higuain. Maybe the board will break down and pay £80-100m for a 31 yo Lewandowski. Maybe pigs will fly, lolol

In order, the best 2019 options

Tier one (ie Morata doesn't stop being shit)

1 Icardi

2 Martial

3 Werner

4 Belotti

5  Ciro Immobile (fuck his age, give him a 4 year deal, and this year was the best to do that) <<< big issue, SMS will probably leave Lazio next summer and they will never give up both in same window

Tier 2 (Morata doesn't stop being shit)

Truly insane ones (insane in that we will NEVER spend this type of cash and the teams will never sell these to us nor will the players probably come) are:

1 Mbappe

2 Dybala

3 Griezmann

4 Firmino

5 Harry Kane

Tier 3 (Morata doesn't stop being shit)

We start a series of signing ageing players to one year contracts (this is desperation move btw and I HATE IT)

1 Lewandowski (will be probably 2 years from now, not next summer)

2 Edinson Cavani

3 Luis Suárez (zero chance till a couple year older I think, he is a Barca lifer)

4 Karim Benzema

5 Dries Mertens

6 Edin Dzeko

7 Jamie Vardy

etc etc

Tier 4 (Morata doesn't stop being shit)

Start grasping at straws and buy young strikers or not so top level and hope they come good  (I HATE THIS)

Tier Five  Morata comes good, issue solved for 5 or so years

Those are literally all the options

which would you do?

Higuain is off the table, Lewandowski will not be let go until 2020 window I am almost positive AND we will not pay what Bayern demands as he will be 32 They (Bayern) MAY go in and grab Icardi or Dybala or Werner, which would further fuck us

what would you do?

I think he had a great game, but I can't shake off a feeling that he scores those difficult goals easier, where there is no imperative to score. If he had 1 on 1 chance, I think he would feck it up. Hope this uplifts him so he can score 1 on 1 chances too!

Depends on the player and the situation. Higuain played for sarri in Napoli and Sarri knows him well. Exactly like Sarri and Jorginho. After 2 games we all agree that Jorginho is a great player for Chelsea. Higuain could do well here too.

You yourself are giving the options. They could pay 98 million for Icardi and he would be a great signing. Higuain said the only person that wanted him in London was Sarri and others didn't want him!

By the way, I like Willian so much. I respect your comment, but in my opinion he is a very good player for us and I love the way he plays.

Positive match for me, finally got the goal hes been working for. Glad to see he is building himself back up, all Chelsea supporters should be backing him. If he starts firing we are in business. Definitely more suited for Sarri than Conte. I feel another goal coming against Newcastle.

I agree with you, and it was my hope that he would just get slightly better with more confidence, as each game goes by.

He's done well so far this season, i'm sticking by him.

He's MMM

My Man Morata

Probably the only one but I love pissing off the haters.

Gosh. Someone can't explain their reasons for their struggle without being accused of blaming something/someone else? Your negative obsession with Morata is "hilarious".

It's very easy to blame the ex-coach, right?

Tbf that interview is a bit shit for me personally. It makes it look like an attack towards Conte but its more towards the style, although still think its a bit of a bullshit excuse.

The headline says he blames Contes direct style but you look at how successful Costa was in it and think well do you change the style to suit the striker or make the striker adapt or a bit of both? I think the style maybe didn't suit him overly well just like Hazard, just like Willian, just like Pedro so yeah its fair to say maybe the change helps but you can't say that at the beginning it did work for a while, as the previous season Pedro and Hazard did pretty well too, perhaps because Costa and Matic were there and werent the season afterwards perhaps not. I don't think other than Willian anybody has actually come out and said a bad word about Antonio from a Chelsea point of view. The style regardless of what it was, the whole team seemed to struggle second half of the season. I generally think confidence was more to do with his slump than the direct style along with the back injury and no winter break which we've all seen it affect some players coming from Spain beforehand. I suppose as well its different playing in Madrid and now maybe this season we will see Sarri get something else out of Morata but I think he can't really blame Conte's style entirely. I like the other interview about wanting to bounce back for Chelsea though, he has a decent attitude just needs to keep working away getting more goals and more confident.

But...he is still struggling now. That’s why I find it silly indirectly accusing Conte for his failings last season.

This hes indirectly accusing Conte crap your coming with is just ludicrous if I'm honest, I know you dont rate him but that is just clutching at straws, hes blamed a style but players play under managers who play styles which don't suit them the whole time, its just how it goes, the managers decide.

Also hes struggling? 2 games into the season, 1 goal and hes played a lot better than he did for a lot of the second half of the season last year. Its a bit early to start bashing the guy for struggling when hes got 1 in 2 and will probably still improve as the team continues to do so as well, I don't think its a coincidence the team start playing well and hes back in amongst it looking better. Fair enough I know hes not Aguero or Kane but the guy is going to be our first choice striker I think we should give him another chance because hes obviously feeling very lucky to have the chance to be an number 1 option as opposed to a bench player and committed to trying to change his fortunes going from that other interview.

I suppose if hes struggling that would mean some of the other guys are struggling too? Its very very very early to judge somebody in that way, you can't necessarily look at a team with a new coach (hes worked with everybody for what 2 weeks?), a new system and new players and instantly come to the conclusion somebody is struggling because also Azpi, Luiz and Rudiger have perhaps struggled in moments, as did Jorginho v Huddersfield in the first 15 minutes and then v Arsenal for 20 minutes before half time... its a work in progress and as stupid as that sounds its going to be another few games before this team properly gets going at what 75% of its capabilities never mind 100%.

Doesn't change the fact that you seem keen to react negatively to everything about him though. As @OneMoSalah said above, he was talking more about the playing style helping/not helping him than blaming Conte. Whether Sarri's approach can get the best out of him remains to be seen but can you really disagree with Morata's point about Conte's playing style if you think about it? We all know Morata isn't the strongest, isn't a physical striker and yet Conte continuously to use him like a target man. It was like Conte using Hazard as the player upfront and then asking others to lump the ball up to him and we all know what happened with that one.

He blamed a style that Conte used last season. He doesn’t have to call Conte’s name out. He did not like his style as it doesn’t suit him, therefore that’s why he’s saying he was terrible last season.

Bad players can have good games too, ask Torres. I agree that he is playing better than 2nd half of last season, but that’s because he was sooo poor. Now he’s around 5/10 mark. The jury is still out, the first game was against Huddersfield, and Arsenal 1st half played to his strengths. 2nd half he was easily neutralised because Arsenal played deeper, which most PL teams will do against us.

....and what about Mandzukic when he was at Bayern and didn't like Peps style... he called Pep out (https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2248629-mario-mandzukic-slams-pep-guardiola-for-bayern-munich-exit-taunts-former-boss). Morata hasn't called anybody out, he mentioned the style and the difficulties perhaps he had because that's not his game. I think your trying to add something where there is nothing in all honesty. If it was any other player it wouldn't be an issue.

Torres again? The guy played over 200 games for us and had maybe 10 good games if you want to call it that. I mean its a bit pointless to bring him up. Yes Arsenal neutralised him but again still it doesn't mean he played poor, he didn't hold it up every time because Mustafi and Papodopulous like to get tight when they can and are very physical centre backs but he still did alright, nothing outstanding but still did things any striker would do. The way your critiquing him is a bit harsh. The truth is as individual players they maybe have 3-4 minutes in possession where as the rest of the match it is off the ball. Again I get it you don't rate him but you can't expect every striker or every player in that regard to play perfectly for 90 minutes. It just doesn't happen.

Yes the jury is still out but again, give the guy a bit of an opportunity because pre-season means nothing in all honesty, the real games are now and so far hes been slowly improving and still will I feel, along with the rest of this team.

Chiringuito ( first to announce ronaldo to Juve, big reliable Real Madrid source ) have just announced that Morata has an agreement with Real, wouldn't cost more than 80M.
They don't clearly state that we are willing to sell or that Morata is Real's first target but they do say that it is a very real option for both player and club, and that latest birth of his twins is making him think of a return to Madrid.

Probably a plan B for Real if everything falls apart with Rodrigo.
