I'm guessing we will be one of the 16 teams invited, will be good for our boys to get exposure like that, but I do fear for them against the upper league one sides especially.

Maybe this is the compromise between B teams in the lower leagues and not doing it atall.

Very, very interesting stuff.

Will there be a limit on the number of career first XI appearances for players selected to play?

All of the top sides tend to send their better U21 players out on loan in preference to holding on to them. In theory therefore the Premier league sides will be younger and weaker than they might be and they'll be facing sides who are doubly motivated against then. Opponents will want to beat the Premier League hotshots and will be desperate to avoid defeat at the hands of kids.
