Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims Chelsea have made a £47.3 million offer for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, with a further £2.7 million in bonuses.

And The Daily Express reminds us that that would put Koulibaly up there with the most expensive defenders of all time - PSG paid £50 million to sign David Luiz from Chelsea while Manchester City bought John Stones from Everton for £47.5 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons.

Napoli are said to be considering Juventus defender Martin Caceres as his replacement.

Chelsea and Valencia did not give up and do not give up. The Blues remain in pressing for Kalidou Koulibaly , although Napoli have said no to 55 million euro plus 3 for the player bonus.Koulibaly, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport , would be tempted by the hypothesis, as well as Raul Albiol from Valencia to return. Again, despite the Spanish proposal of 12 million euro and a three-year 2.5 to the player, it's not blue.

It is. I can see Napoli sell Albiol to Valencia en take Mangala as his replacement. Or they won't even sell both K2 and Albiol.

I don't know. I just don't see them sell Koulibaly anymore.

Isn't Albiol's agent said couple of days ago that no way Albiol will leave Napoli?

Mangala should be going for atleast 40mil euro considering how much city paid for him. This could be good news.

Probably only about £20m

Chelsea now on Romagnoli and Maksimovic. Koulibaly chase over. Romagnoli now priority. (@dimarzio)

Not just stones saga but the same thing happened with Rooney, chased till we signed stop gap. Then before that I remember the modric saga, chased till end up with meireles.

Time after time these people don't learn and still keep their jobs. While they fire managers for their incompetents.

what the hell are you on about?

There are only a small handful of players who can help us, if those players aren't available what are we to do?

And yet those players moved very easily the following season. Stones, modric.

And we have nothing.

Yes they were allowed to leave their teams the season after... What's your point?

So sick of this saga. Even as someone who badly wanted us to sign Koulibaly I think we should just move on and get Maksimovic.

Probably half the price, extremely comfortable and progressive on the ball, very mobile, and much less risk of being a bust. Maksimovic partnered with Zouma is a huge upgrade on what we have. Maybe he'd even allow us to play a back 3, who knows.

You kids need to stop whining and complaining about not signing players. If the clubs don't want to sell what else is the club supposed to do? Some of you say move on, move onto what? Jonny Evans?? Mustafi??

There just isn't a lot of value for your dollar on the market and overspending for secondary targets makes little to no sense since it won't improve our current situation... New shiny toys aren't always better than the old ones.
