I mean, it would be nice to hear directly from the manager that he's just as eager to improve the defense as we are. We've heard nothing but weak media links. Doesn't really seem like we're close to signing any thus far.

Why mention the area we want to improve in our squad to everyone and prize ourselves out of signings? No one asked him anything about signings when he was unveiled last week and a few days later, boom, we got Kante.

True. I'm just saying that if I were there I'd ask him straight up "are you looking to bring in a couple of defenders?" and just see what he said. Without naming specific players he could just say "yes, that's definitely an area we need to reinforce."

I know deals are being worked on, of course. I'm just impatient! :D

I dread hearing more "I'm happy with the squad I have" shit like Mourinho kept spouting. That'll mean we're stuck with Ivanovic and Cahill playing significant minutes for us again.

Until I see a new CB holding up a Chelsea shirt I'll be worried about that.

GREAT WORKERS:CONTE

Quote

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s friendly against WAC RZ Pellets, Antonio Conte reiterated his happiness at the way his players have been training since he arrived. He also discussed the ongoing recovery of Kurt Zouma, the return of more of his squad today and the future of Diego Costa. The team hotel in Velden was the setting for Conte’s first pre-match press conference as Chelsea boss with a mix of local and British journalists in attendance. Having been welcomed by the local tourism board and the general manager of the hotel, Conte began by thanking our hosts for the great conditions the players and staff have found in Carinthia, a location he described as ‘beautiful and peaceful’.Conte then gave his verdict on how the first week of training under his guidance has gone.

‘I am very happy because I am finding the players with the right attitude and the right behaviour,’ Conte said.‘They are great workers and this is very important because we need to have a bit of time to go into a new idea of football, and a new method of work with different tactical, physical and mental aspects.‘It’s also important to have a bit of time for me to know the players and for the players to know me. In the Euros I had a finished team. Now we are building. In this moment it’s normal I have a bit of difficulty with this change because with Chelsea we are beginning our season.‘I am getting to know a lot of new players and I’m bringing them a new idea of football. We need a bit of time but I saw a lot of positive things this week.‘And then today Fabregas, Pedro, Cuadrado, Cahill and Azpi arrived,’ added Conte.‘This is important because I need to have the complete group to work, and to transfer my ideas to all the players.’

With regards to Juan Cuadrado, Conte stressed once more that he was very keen to work with him this season and was looking forward to doing so. Conte said Michy Batshuayi has arrived in good physical condition, while the boss has been delighted to see Kurt Zouma out training with the group as our French defender continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.

‘Today he started the aerobic work for the first time,’ Conte revealed.‘When we have a very strong situation, no [he is not involved]. We wait because we must respect the right time for him.‘Now we are preparing for him to go and train when there aren’t very strong situations. He has also started to play our idea of football when we have the ball, and also without the ball.‘We know he is recovering but I know he needs more time to recover. It’s important we don’t push him. I had the same injury and I know from experience when the player is ready to go.’

Recent press speculation has linked Diego Costa with a move away from Stamford Bridge but Conte was adamant the striker’s future is in SW6.

‘Diego is our player. He is a fantastic player, a player with a fundamental importance and there is no problem. He stays with us, he is working very hard, he is very happy to work with his teammates and with me in the new idea of football. He is a Chelsea player.‘He is an important player, a very strong player, one of the best in the world, and I am sure when he goes into our ideas he will score a lot of goals for us.’

Great to hear. Somebody who has actually played at the highest level and knows the players' capabilities.

Good to have a football man back in charge.

Ignorant comment really, shows the extent of knowledge of the average football fan. Sad to read also.
Arrigo Sacchi, arguably one of the best managers ever, never played football at the highest level.

it makes me curious. I'm dying to know what his new ideas for our football will be

Damn being a girl comes with a lot of territory. I get anxious and curious instead of crazy about it, lol

I think your comment is the ignorant one, not Styles' and Conte's. I mean, Mourinho is (was, whatever) undoubtedly one of the best managers in the last years and he's never played in high level. Good for him, nothing wrong with that. It doesn't take away that having a manager that has been a high level player is also great. At the end of the day, it's the whole package that matters, not yesterdays' experience whether in the pitch or in the dugout. His comment was from someone who had the same injury and I see why Styles commented on that. It must a great thing for Happy to have someone who's been there around him right now, not only guiding him, but certainly encouraging too. This is great. Of course, if Conte was only about that, it would suck, but this is a nice surplus to his many positives.

This last part is not directed on you per say, but why do I feel like management is still a touchy subject in this forum? Is it only me? Not every comment is a dig on Mourinho. He's past, I for one have a huge respect and gratitude for him, he's still the Special One for me because of his history with the club, but he's not here anymore and even more relevant, he's the enemy now. I love the man, but if we have to destroy him playing against United, I'm all for it. In the pitch, respect gives space to competitiveness and Mourinho is now opponent, so in that context, his history here while respectable, isn't the focus anymore. I'll be happy to make him a victim. I look to the past and I respect him - not all his moments, but most of them, I don't hold onto that. Ofc that's a personal matter and everyone is entitled to react how they please, but I feel some veiled Mourinho defensiveness around. It's time to let it go imo. He certainly did.

It's about time we exorcise the Mourinho ghost.

I've missed your posts

Barbara, I'm sorry but you completely misunderstood my post, as I never intended to say Conte's comment was ignorant (I don't know where that came out from actually?) :P Of course it's great for Zouma to have someone who knows how to handle the recovery.
However, implying that someone without a past as a footballer (on the highest level) would not be the right man for the job, or would not be able to handle Zouma's recovery properly, it's nothing but provincial thought for me.
And no, it's not only a defence of José, is more like to all those managers who have proved to be even superior coaches compared to those who played football at the highest level. Arrigo Sacchi for one.

THIS! We are in good hands.

Conte:“I really appreciated the effort of all the players. We have to work on a tactical level and find the right solutions for this team.

“We certainly need to work and shake out some skeletons from last season, that is without doubt. In some situations, especially at the start, the team was very deep and too defensive. That’s not what Chelsea are about.

“We need to change the mentality in that sense, but I have at my disposal a group of lads who are ready to work.”

About what new ideas conte try to implement to this team. Maybe that bold part give us some little clue ?

How about a high-five instead? :P

I thought me moved past this :cry:

Back on topic though. I'm getting excited about this guy. If he does play for merit, regardless of age, fee, agent or people on the board, we really are in for a landmark.

He has all the right ingredients it seems to take us to the kind of football Roman has said he wants us to play (based on what Mourinho and Emenalo said the last few years). The key will be picking (or allowed to pick, I have no idea how TPTB work inside Chelsea) players based on what they show above everything else. For the first time ever, I'm actually looking forward to have some youth players integrated for real. I really hope it happens.
