The Mourinho Thread

 Share

Recommended Posts

Image is important in all walks of life, whether it's politics or the office, what you choose to wear reflects on how you feel about a situation. Especially if you were once obsessed with fashion 'like Mourinho was', he has his worst seasons in his career when he can't be bothered to grow his hair or dress 'formally'. Those are facts and can be proven by the results on the pitch.

And some people place far too much stock in image. At some point you grow up and learn to be comfortable in what enables you to do your job best. Sometimes you might want to wear a suit, sometimes you might be more comfortable in a tracksuit and your mind might be on the task at hand.

That type of comfort with the way you dress and not being beholden to a few people on the internet is generally a sign of maturity and confidence.

Holy crap, someone actually cares about his clothes?

Love it when simple minded people 'chip in'..

I only ever look at the grand scheme of things, wrote a short essay on behavioural psychology in this thread a while back, don't see why I should repeat myself.

Is this dress issue for sports only?

Or every day thing like work and such?

Cause I will say that Mark Zuckerberg continues to dress in hoodies and what not...

Silicon Valley in general has never been suit & tie fixated, Steve Jobs used to walk around One infinate loop barefoot.

Because that's what he felt comfortable in, and he was pretty mental. If you want money from someone in Silicon Valley, 9 times out of 10 they'll wear a suit.

At a certain point though people just wear what they want and what they're comfortable in. For some that will be a suit, for others it might be something different. Sometimes people might want to wear a suit one day and a tracksuit another. They might just feel a bit bloated one day and not fancy wearing a suit....I think you're just placing far too much stock in cod psychology.

Bir_CFC's post above pretty much hits the nail on the head. 'Regardless of what this all means in relation to Mourinho's mindset', he should care about his image because it's Chelsea's image. A youthful looking Mourinho in a fresh Armani suit, looking to take on the world is better for Chelsea's stock. A comfortable guy in his 50's who's just thrown on an official club tracksuit, isn't quite the look a club of this size should be represented by.

If you read Steve Jobs' autobiography, you'd know 'for example' that he wore those turtle necks so they'd become iconic, nothing to do with being comfortable. He once refused to wear an oxygen mask because he thought it was ugly and didn't like the design.

And how does that fit with our sponsors Hackett?

Isn't his image linked to our sponsors, the primary one being Adidas. Again there are a lot of marketing factors at play that have nothing to do with this pseudo-psychological assessment.

You might want him in Armani, but he's obliged to wear Hackett and Adidas gear a certain number of times per season in each competition. Was Steve Jobs sponsored by Fruit of the Loom?

He threw on a club tracksuit for the two biggest games of the season, the most formal occasions for a manager, Champions league quarter & semi-finals. IF there was such a policy (i.e wear Hacket, adidas or Jaguar at this particular time) those games rule out such a theory. Ancelotti used to wear our official club 'suits' rather than the informal training jumpers, so Mourinho is rejecting suits outright, let there be no mistake here.

Mourinho was sacked in a tracksuit, he wore a tracksuit in his last game for Chelsea. When things are not going well.. the suits disappear, and reappear for charity games, ironically. Mourinho shaves his head when he's not happy (Summer 2007 Ben haim, sidwell unveilings & the sheva situation), and again this season when things were looking grim.

In hard times, the hair and the suits go.

I don't know what is happening about the way Mourinho dresses in Chelsea. But in Madrid it was reported Mourinho didn't like the suits and he didn't use them many times (some papers say Mourinho had to pay fines to Madrid for not using the suits).

After that Madrid changed the spanish brand they had for Giudici
