Owls track Blues midfielder Smith

Recommended Posts

Skysports.com understands Sheffield Wednesday are lining up a move for Chelsea youngster Jimmy Smith.

Owls boss Brian Laws is believed to be exploring the possibility of taking the attacking midfielder on loan for next season.

Smith is highly rated at Stamford Bridge having come through the youth ranks and been a regular in the reserves.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed two loan spells away from Chelsea over the last couple of seasons at Queens Park Rangers and Norwich.

Smith is well down the pecking order at Chelsea and they are believed to be willing to loan him out again so that he can gain valuable first-team experience.

A number of clubs are thought to be keen on signing Smith, but Laws is hopeful of winning the race to bring the midfielder to Hillsborough.

Maybe it was just someone saying they thought he should, to which I agreed!

Very possible. And i agree with that agreement :) Don't think Smith will come even close for us now. Although it could be a case of putting them in the best possible shop window for a season to make sure they can move on to a decent level club.
