List of things it took to get this club's best LB games:

  • Mourinho to get fired
  • CB #1 to tear his ACL
  • CB #2 to injure his hamstring
  • Natural RB to move to RB
  • RB to move to CB

Kind of gives credibility to the claims names are more important than ability at Chelsea. Sturridge and De Bruyne have also complained about this.

Strong shout for MoM today. Got alot of criticism for his defending but today he did very well. Hope he can continue to take his chances, impress and make that LB spot his own. Because it's such a nice feeling to see natural fullbacks bombing forward, linking up properly with the wingers and putting in crosses like the one to Costa today. I swear, if he goes back to the bench then they trippin.

By far his best performance for us. Originally wanted us to sell him because he just didn't seem to get any sort of playing time and whilst his value would still be relatively high we should cash him but if he can produce performances like this consistently then he can easily change my mind.

Of course he has a lot to learn, there is no doubt, but to learn you need to play too. Jose thought it was an offence to choose naturally footed wing backs and play them, last night proved it is not a crime and we looked fluid. Of course he had a few shaky moments but all the back line did at times but what we saw was the kid bombing on when the opportunity came his way.

Start him against City, do not drop him.

We can't forget he's only 21. With more belief shown in him, he can only get better. He's already good enough to be our starter, has been for a long time, but for some despicable reason he's been reduced to a role where he doesn't even get considered when everybody is fit. Why?? He proved he can do it on the biggest stage away from home, but even against mid- and lower table clubs he gets no love, when it was clear to everybody that this full-back pairing of Ivan-Dave doesn't work against teams that sit back. I agree with the people who say that Mourinho from 2003-2010 is gone - no way can such a limited manager in thinking be the best in the world anymore. I hope to fuck this opens Guus' eyes and Ivanovic gets chucked to CB permanently, it's clear as day he doesn't have the physical attributes to play full-back in 50 games a season anymore.

Not surprised. We just have not given him enough chances to show how good he is consistently. He had the highest rate for successful tackles IIRC last season in the Bundesliga.

How on Earth do you interpret that stat? It can be affected by so many things which are beyond the player's control that it is almost meaningless. For example, it would be interesting to look at the interception statistics of players who have faced a Chelsea side with Ramires in the line up.

I think Baba was decent in Paris and that those who felt he was excellent are guilty of seeing what they wanted to see. They would not agree of course.

PSG have higher passing accuracy than Barcelona in CL. http://www.squawka.com/football-team-rankings#possession-&-passing#team-stats#champions-league|season-2015/2016#0#90#any#any#season#1#all-matches#accuracy#desc#total

Just an example of the many factors.

Here's another, which player wins this stat category is likely to be influenced by possession stats.

And another, most sides have a preference for attacking on one flank or the other. A defensive player on the chosen flank is likely to have more chances to intercept. We've all seen how often it is that when a side gets thrashed, it is their goalkeeper who is their outstanding player. The more shots come at you, the more you might stop but does that mean the other keeper is not so good?.

Whoever intercepts six balls against a stronger team with very high passing accuracy deserves praise imo.
